I got this one recently. I changed it from my phantom 4 pro plus yeah. We can see a difference right here, so why did i go for the 2s versus the phantom 4 pro plus phantom 4? Pro plus has pretty much everything you can wish to have on the drone. Nowadays, at least for the consumer part, not the professional side of life in this one. Here, you have the variable aperture, for example, which you don’t have on the air 2s. That is a bit of a pin in the butt, because well every time, it’s too bright outside, i have to put an nd filter on this little puppy here, uh wherein i didn’t have to do that necessarily on this one, because you can close the aperture and Have less light coming in, but the main reason for me to swap between the pro and the air 2s is the size um this guy? When you fold it can be really really small it. It fits literally in a little pocket of your bag where, in this one had to have a bag of its own literally, i had a backpack just for the drone. So when i would go around on on shoots for clients, i would have to have my big backpack for my cameras and the big backpack for the drone. So now i have one backpack. I put everything inside and i’m happy with it a little more on the aperture. This one is stuck at f 2.
8. I used to only have phantoms, so the fact that i have to be stuck at a fixed wide aperture is a little bit of a hustle. Obviously, you don’t necessarily see this when you’re taking photos. You don’t see that much of a depth of field when you’re taking landscapes or panoramas or anything else. For that matter, you can use nd filters. They do provide you with four nd filters. That is great when you take the fly more combo, but that’s. One thing i would have loved to see on this one like they put on the mavic pro 2., like for the phantom 4 pro, and that is something absolutely amazing. You have 20 megapixels on this camera, as well as a full one, inch sensor. That is just amazing, because i get the same image quality that i used to get on my phantom, if not better out of this little guy. So that is a huge pro and plus, if you’re looking to buy a drone, i would not go for anything under at least one inch sensor in terms of transmission. You get, or they say, 12 kilometers. Out of this little guy here, i can’t say that that is true. Unless you really are in an open field: there’s, no electric power plants anywhere there’s, no airport anywhere, there’s, no interferences anywhere. So i don’t know where they tested this. If they tested this in, like some place like in the desert or something but um, i started having trouble usually in an open field around one kilometer, 1.
2 kilometer legally, you couldn’t go any further because you need to have the drone inside at all times, so um That’S uh that’s, not necessarily a good example, but they do claim that it has 12 kilometers range uh, so yeah i did have trouble and started losing the connection with the drone. After about one 1.2 kilometers, depending on the areas you go to i’m sure you can get more or less uh, there’s, probably people that did go further. For example, with the mavic pro 1, i did go all the way to almost seven kilometers and then the battery started to die. So i had to come back but um yeah that’s the range that i get with this drone. Okay, then they implemented the what they call the master shot master shot is basically the drone going by himself uh doing its thing. Uh doing several recordings up down, left right and it basically stitches them up together to make one clip. It also gives you the individual clips, but it gives you one clip in the end with music that you can choose. Do everything on your phone in the dji app it’s, very simple. It looks okay, but it is only for full hd. So if you’re looking to shoot anything higher than that it’s not going to do it Music personally, i’m, not a big fan of that master shot. I mean, i think, it’s great if let’s say you’re doing a video you’re all by yourself, and you want to take some cool um shots.
You can you can do it, you could do it. You could use this function to have a little bit of an epic part in your video uh. Personally, i i don’t. I see this as a gimmick a little bit uh. Sometimes you had a little bit of trouble to keep in frame. It would just wander off and stuff, so it is, i think, it’s it’s a beginning of something, but they need to improve it. In my opinion, okay, then, in terms of video quality and recording, you can record up to 5.4 k in 24 and 30p, which is great. I did not notice that much of a difference, besides my computer, being a little bit more laggy, so i had to create a proxy for it and make sure that i can actually run that on my computer, but when i export it in 5.4k, i don’t notice A huge difference also because you need to have a monitor, that’s able to display those uh those higher resolutions uh so to me, 4k is plenty and and it’s enough for my clients for myself for my personal project, i shoot everything in 4k, so that’s enough, and In terms of 4k, you can record up to 60p and that my friends, that is great, i love that with a full one inch sensor, uh, recording 4k 60p, is great for slow, mo speed ramps. You can really play around with it, and that is great. That is awesome all right.
We have the adsb which we see on the little label here, the air sense. What that is, is basically they implemented. What other helicopters planes and any other aircraft flying in the sky has which is a way to sense other planes around. So they don’t know your location, but you know other planes location, so you can always see on the map. Uh that’s an option you can turn on and you can see if there’s helicopters, airplanes or any other aircraft in the sky that would possibly potentially clash with your with your drone, and that is an extra layer of security which, in my opinion, is absolutely fantastic, and I think that should be, and it will be obviously implemented in all the future drones so thumbs up dji. That is actually a good good good feature that i like to have. Okay, then we have the nd filters that i mentioned at the beginning of this video. This little package here that i give you with the fly more combo has four nds. You have 4, 8, 16 and 32. That is usually fine in pretty much every circumstance. I found myself having to use these, since we have at fix f 2.8 aperture on this drone um. I normally use the nd16 when i shoot 60p because i’m shooting 120 of a second to double the frame rate uh. That is fine that works out. For me. It would be great to have also an nd64, because if, for example, you want to do a long exposure, you can’t really do it in broad daylight, with a 32 that’s, not strong enough anyway.
This little box here is great. If you want to shoot cinematics. So double the frame rate you need to have something like this in your bag at all times, so thanks dji, to provide this little box in terms of noise, this guy is very silent. Actually, i showed it to some of my friends that i do fly drones as well and other clients, and they were well okay: okay, wait! No okay! Some of my clients were shocked for how loud this little thing is, but those don’t know the uh phantom 4. Pro that i have on the shelf over there um so in terms of noise, if i compare the phantom 4 pro, which feels like there’s a whole uh a whole colony of bees coming after you, this is very silent. This is more like little mosquitoes. So if you compare the two, the decibels are lower on this one um. It does not bother me when it goes high. A little bit. You don’t hear it anymore or barely, which is very convenient when you go in places where there’s people around, because people tend to get scared of drones, even though i normally go around and tell them i’m gon na fly a drone. This is what i’m gon na do, and i show them and so forth, so they’re happy with it. It is good to have something that’s a little bit less loud and for everything that this drone packs up in such a small body.
I think this is Music. Take amazing Applause: this drawer has obstacles sensing in four directions: uh, that is good. You have the top the bottom and for most cases it works great, but i am the type of pilot that makes sure there’s nothing around and that keeps his eyes on the drone. Pretty much at all times, unless i go really really far, but i usually go very high, so i don’t risk to touch anything any tree or any house or any obstacle uh, maybe a bird but so far so good on that i did have a problem at Some point i’m, going to show you footage here. I was in the fields with my son and i set it to automatically follow us profile wise, like on the side, and it was flying next to us. It started flying and at some point it just came straight on to us and thank god i had a remote in my hand, and i just stopped it just before it hit us. So, as you can see on the footage here, it got really really close to us, and that is something that bothers me, because i i tend to want to trust this this little guy here. But if it does that with me, my son it’s a big problem because let’s say you use this with. I don’t know you’re shooting a film or you’re shooting a little video or even you’re doing this with the family, with your clients or whatever, and then the drone just goes nuts and goes on to the the person that’s, not that’s, not too good the gi.
That is not too good, so there’s still a bunch of things i think to fix with the algorithm before i can fully trust those functions, but otherwise i mean for here and there, if you keep the remote in your hand, it can be fine. I do like to do that manually, though you have a bunch of other things like the fact that you have an led light that leads up in the bottom. Here you can assign it to, for example, the function button here, the top left of the remote. That is great, because when you have your helipad open and your drone is on it, you can turn on the led light and when it starts flying at you know, for example, for night shot and it’s very dark outside it’s good to have a little light. That shows you where the drone is anyhow i’m, not a big fan of flying the drone during the night, because i don’t really see it that well and i don’t want to go and hit obstacles with it. So i did not take any night shots with this drone there, so i didn’t go that much into technical specs of this drone, but for real life usage, which is what i tried it for for my work and for hobby and just for fun. I think this drone is absolutely gorgeous the photos that come out of it. You can really get some good stuff by the way.
If you like, the editing of my photos, let me know in the comment section below i can do a video specifically to show you how i color grade my photos and for videos. I am very, very happy with the results. It has a crisp high resolution. Very nice um outcome, and i think it just looks very nice compared to my phantom 4 pro, which was also amazing, same sensor and so forth. I think this one is a bit better. Obviously, we’re talking a few years different, so there’s a bit of an improvement on drones nowadays, but look at the package of this thing i mean this is so light, so small. So anyway i love it all right. So i see my next video, like always i’m, going to be reviewing the konova motorized slider very soon, as well as the fujinon. 18Mm f 1.4, that i’m getting from fuji i’m very excited about that it’s.
