DJI Mavic 2 Pro Review – Teil 1 – [Unboxing, Inspektion, UPDATING Madness!]
Dies ist gon na, be awesome, we're gon na review this. Dies ist gon na, be the first part of a review series. I'Ve got the fly market here, I'm, also going to be doing the Mavic zoom so stay tuned, because we're gon na have a series of videos on this new Mavic let's get started. I ordered this the day they announced it at the DJI announcement event. I actually got invited to go to that, but I couldn't make it. I live in Hawaii and we actually had a hurricane warning here. Hurricane was coming through in Hawaii that Thursday, when it was announced, and so it was actually delayed a couple days a day or two from FedEx because of that hurricane, but I finally got it in today and I'm. Super excited we're gon na do the full unboxing of this now this is gon na be, Natürlich, the first video in a series, so ist dies gon na, be the unboxing setup and updating and then I'm gon na have multiple other videos we're gon na. Do the initial flight test we're gon na do range tests, cinematic shoreline videos showing the Cape some of the capabilities, and this one's got this one inch sensor camera on it, this isn't the zoom version. This is the pro version, so we should be able to get some awesome, video and pictures with this version. Okay, so I literally have not even taken this thing out of its plastic wrap.
I just wanted to kind of have this experience with you guys. Maybe I should show you the Box first, so there's the front of the box. The size of the box, Natürlich, just has some information there. It is folded up on the Mavic tube Pro. Has this huge like globe, guarding the camera and that's? Really all there is to it. So let me pull this thing out. Oop just rip that sticker off. I was thinking that was a pull tab, but you just have to apparently kind of take it out of the sleeve and you just pop the top open and look at this wowzers there. It is in the box, so it's, looking very similar to the first Mavic Pro, albeit a little more rounded, and it looks like the controller is a little career in certain parts. We have the black, rubber and very very similar. You can see that we do have the removable sticks here, so we'll set that on the side, we'll pull out the drones see what this thing looks like and then we'll pull out everything else and see what we got Wow. So incredibly, kompakt, just like the first one, it does look like my globe was a little bit loose. It wasn't really clipped in you see that there so a little bit loose. Hopefully my gimbal is okay. It doesn't look like it's really snapping in that good. I can kind of pull it out really easily.
You'Ve got these two little tabs up top they push in and then you push your gimbal guard down and in but yeah it does. Some fortunately seem a little bit loose, so maybe something they can improve along the production runs of this is make that thing a little less easy to pop open, but anyway there it is so there's the cover you can see how it's just that mechanism very similar To the way the Mavic air works, so it has this hinged mechanism to really protect the whole camera and just pulling it out. Look at that camera. That thing is just fantastic looking, it looks a lot more professional, it's kind of all together. Looking than the original, this one looks more kind of like the Phantom 4 pro ish, really all integrated and the gimbal looks a lot more fit and finished than the first Mavic pro. So really really nice. Of course everybody knows DJI their attention to detail and their big build quality is second to none. Absolutely i mean i'm, not a DJ fanboy, but I have to admit their stuff is incredibly awesome. I do reviews on all different kinds of quadcopter, so I like to keep it neutral, but these guys do up the bar as usual, look at the bottom of bellied man. This is just phenomenal it's, like magnesium or aluminum. Probably magnesium. Remember the original pro had kind of those heatsink fins in there. This doesn't have any sort of heatsink fins, so it seems like maybe they're spreading out the cooling you see.
The camera has some on the back of the camera, so it's. Looking a lot cleaner, we've got air venting there. We have a rear obstacle camera on the back. Also denken Sie daran,, this thing is omnidirectional, so we're gon na be having obstacle avoidance on the bottom back the front the side I didn't even get to the side yet check this out. Opening an arm now look at that. It has an obstacle avoidance, camera on the side, and these look like actual cameras. These are not just little laser or infrared cameras, but it does look like the top is an infrared or a laser to protect it from hitting something above and that's, something that the phantom 4 pro remember. They had that on the side, sensors and you had to be going really slow for those to be activating. So these I'm guessing you're, probably not gon na work when you're going really fast, accelerating up so we're gon na, have to probably be in a certain mode for that to work. I'Ll tell you what I'm gon na bring in the original Mavic Pro and while we're talking about this and we have it out of the box. Let'S just do a little bit of a comparison on how it looks. Okay, guys here we go so I brought out all of the Mavic line. This is the Mavic air on the left here with its controller here's, the original Mavic Pro I don't have the platinum, but the platinum, Natürlich, is very similar to the Maverick Pro.
Natürlich, you can already see how the edges are a little bit smoother, although very very similar. It looks a little bit less compartmentalized in the new one. Then the old one. Here you can see how we have different colors on the sensors or on the front. This is all like integrated one color, so very, sehr ähnlich, looking just very slightly different, more a little more rounded, as I was saying, and of course this is where we can see in the old version. Remember that camera and we can look up inside there. We can see that the gimbal was a little it's, sehr klein. It looks actually smaller, but again the zoom version of the pro 2 or the Mavic 2 is going to have that smaller camera that you can zoom. The only reason why this camera here is such a monster is because it has that high quality 1 inch sensor just lining up the rear, and we can see that the the pro 2 is actually just a slight bit longer. It looks like maybe a half an inch longer actually let's see what our height is here. The height actually might be just about the same. It looks you can see how this almost kind of disappears, but this is the bell there and they do look very similar in depth. Here is a little bit of a look at the bottom. Now you can see that what I was talking about, the fins are kind of integrated in the belly here on the old Mavic Pro for the Mavic.
There you go so I'm thinking. This is going to be kind of how it looks on the Mavic zoom as well, because all they're really changing is the camera, aber schauen Sie sich an, dass. The belly just looks way more smooth and polished more sensors on the bottom, so there's, two cameras. These cameras look like they're different types of cameras in the original. These optical flow cameras. You can see how these ones are smaller. These ones are a little bit larger, probably work better. You can see how the old one had these two sonic sensors two cameras and that's. Really all there was on the bottom as far as sensors go, but the new one check this out. I haven't seen these ones before these ones. By my thumb, they almost look like LED lights, but I'm thinking they've got to be some sort of sensor. You can see that there is another sensor here, an acoustic sensor or maybe a laser kind of how it has on the top or infrared. You see that it looks very similar to the top it's got that glass on the top so I'm, not seeing any acoustic sensors on the bottom, but maybe they do have it there, just in a different kind of form factor anyway. Moving on there's the bottom look at the camera and the gimbal a lot largely because it is a one inch sensor camera. This is just a tiny little camera on the original DJI does have filters.
You can buy directly from their site right now. For this camera and the zoom camera, and by the way guys, I will have the links to these guys and all the accessories down in the description. If you did are interested in purchasing the new Mavic 2 or any of their line, go ahead and check those links, and you can get it straight from DJI, aber auf jeden Fall, just further looking around here. Comparing both you can see that we've got LED lights on the front of the arms there there's none here now. The new Mavic 2 has got LED lights on all corners there. They are there and they're. Also back here on the other arms they're, two cameras for rear obstacle, avoidance sensing. You can see that it's got to be kind of like a stereo vision, so it's gon na work very well. It looks like vents all the way around don't think we've done a rear comparison, so there they are both of them right in front of the camera. You can see definitely a very different, just more integrated and a smoother look to it on the left, with a Mavic to than the Maverick pro, but also very similar. I mean the question also exists is: if I've got the Maverick Pro, do I really need to upgrade to the Mavic and just off the bat I mean since it's, not entirely a lot more flight time, really just off the bat. What I'm thinking is, if you want the better camera and you want the omnidirectional obstacle avoidance that's right now, kind of the only reason I'd see you'd want to upgrade.
But if not, you might want to just stick with the Maverick Pro it's still an awesome drone. It looks like there you can see that the pro is a little bit wider. The new Mavic pro 2 is a little bit thinner in its stance there and just a little bit more compact in certain areas. wie auch immer, I think that's enough, comparing it there real quick. Just the controller's so Mavic purl on the right, the pneumatic two on the left, and you can see that the the new Mavic 2 controller is a little bit more flattened out in the front overall, sehr, very similar and almost exactly the same looks like they've got. The grips in the bottom a little more tidy than the original. You can see how these ones were kind of didn't really fit perfectly in and they're a little larger there. This one's a little bit slimmer and it looks like they lock you and they're getting their tolerances really perfected. From the bottom view, looks like we have that same kind of channel view the channels do look a little bit smaller in the new one, holding our phone connector there and there it is from the back in the bottom. You can just see how they all go together, looks like a lot better helmet tolerances, but same kind of button scheme. Same kind of layout we've got the roller there on the sides for the exposure or anything else. You wanted to program it and also for the gimbal tilt and we've got our record and our picture button and the same layout we've got some protecting film on the front there we'll just take this off there.
We go for the shiny surfaces. Cooling up here very similar to the Mavic pro just actually a little bit whiter, so we're gon na get more cooling sucking into the controller. Now this is actually a three position switch instead of just the two position of the sport mode on the regular Mavic Pro you see, that's a two position switch, this one is TP and s which actually I'm really liking I'm glad they did that because you can Quickly go into it looks like tripod position, lock mode or sport mode, so we've got the rate if you're, just regular, flying put it in P for that GPS, lock and normal speed fast over there in sport mode for fast speed, super fast flying and if you're Trying to get some really smooth shots down in tripod mode, but really limits the yaw speed and the flight speed of this whole craft to get some really nice cinematic shot so I'm really glad they implemented that kind of button where you can quickly switch before you Had to go into your phone and you had to press some some buttons to get that all those modes looks like. We also have some protective coating on the top on the front screen, so it's, actually just a little bit of instructions on the front. Also, even for the people like me that don't really like to read all the instructions do have these little stickers to help you out really really very, sehr, sehr ähnlich, so they didn't really change much.
What RT is working with the Matic Pro? If we pull these, these are the clamps for the phone. We pull these open, and so this kind of reveals our joysticks very similar to how the Mavic air probably the same kind of setup yep you just take them out and you're screwing on really nice aluminum. Very light and small little joysticks with the grippy on top, and then we have this rubber ring surrounding it for a lot of grip. That feels really good in the hand and as far as everything else goes on the bottom, it looks like the same kind of setup where we have. We just slide our phone into these little rubber brackets and we plug it in to the side here. Natürlich, this guy here is on a little track: that's gon na move up and down this is the iPhone connector, the Lightning jack they're gon na supply, a few more in the box which we'll get to in just a second cooling vents. Just look a little bit smaller. Perhaps this has that same USB plug. So if you didn't want to plug in like an iPad, you can like an iPad Mini will actually fit in here. It did fit in the pro you can put that in or you can put a bracket in and have your big iPad pro or a regular iPad just sitting right on top on a clamp you can get aftermarket and of course, we can't forget that this system, Here with the Mavic 2 is using the occu sync to so it's, using the longer range, Ich glaube, you're supposed to get 8 kilometers of range versus what was it 6 oder 7 with the pro.
So that could be another plus 2 that's, not it's, not as an ignition amount of range to really justify buying this over this so I'm, not gon na really say that that's going to be a deal breaker in the range for upgrading, but perhaps it's a stronger Signal so I don't want to count that out as not much of an upgrade until we test and do our range test, because if it only goes a little further, but you have a more solid of a link and you're not getting as much interference with garble. In the screen, it's definitely worth it more to have that improved performance anyway, before we open this up, I just want to go through a little bit more things here. We'Ve got some stickers on here. This is just saying powering on and off press once press in the hole just like the original and to take out it just has these little things on the side, just like the original as well. We'Ll just remove this sticker here, since we don't need that anymore and let's. Just take a look at the battery real quick before we pull this thing all apart, so pushing in the sides and pulling that battery up and Wow look at the significant increase in battery death versus the first one, so here's the original Mavic Pro battery this one. Here is a high voltage 3 s, and this one is a 4s. So eleven point, four nominal voltage versus 15 point four nominal voltage on the new one and really just about the same milliamp power.
This one only has it's a 38 50 on the new one and the old one is a thirty, Acht, Dreißig, so you're only getting 20 more milliamp power capacity, but again the higher voltages can should be more efficient and that's. Usually the way it goes with power is the higher voltage. You have the less loss you're going to have, while going through the components and powering the craft, and just like most of the line of these Mavic pros and mavericks. It looks like if I press the button here, nothing's happening until we kind of activate it with an initial charge, so right now it's just kind of in storage mode, but the batteries you know very similar to the original. We have the same type of connectors there on the bottom main thing we're coming away with here is that this battery is just an extra cell which is making it 4s instead of 3s, and just a little bit heavier. It looks like you just want to line up our connector here and really just sliding straight down pushing in, and that thing is not going anywhere so it's looking really good I'm just gon na open up the arm. Also, Natürlich, the front open up like that and then the rear is it the same way yeah same exact way, so we're just folding down and they automatically are just angling out. We can see that we do have that mesh. The water management mesh in there on the joint it's looking pretty good and from a side view the arms do look very, sehr, very similar again just a little bit smoother around the edges.
As far as the front arms go and their little feet, it looks like the feet are just about exactly the same. Possibly a few millimeters are longer on the pneumatic Pro. Sie können sehen,. That sticks up just a tad more. If we have the bottoms of the arms lined up and they're, also not really angled in quite as much as the original Mavic Pro most forgot to kind of touch base on this little sticker is just showing how to remove the gimbal protector before powering on. So that is just a gimbal protector that globe we took off earlier, so definitely remove that it's, not you're, not supposed to have that on in flight at all that's, just to lock the gimbal in place for traveling. You also do have a couple more little things here: little guards guarding all the shiny surfaces there here's another one here: will scratch guards another one on the back should of taking this off earlier, but I just wanted to kind of show you guys exactly everything about This thing and it much detail as possible. I know this video is gon na be kind of long, but for people investing this much money, this combo was 1718 hundred dollars for this flam or combo. I got with the drone if we just get the Mavic to pro itself. I think it's more along the lines of like thirteen or fourteen, but you don't get the bag and stuff which we're gon na go over in just a second.
So I went ahead and just took off the propellers on the Matic pro original just so we could kind of have a little bit of a comparison here. Let'S look at the motors, wirklich schnell. You can see that they're just about the same exact motors. Looking motors, I don't think they really probably change that at all. Es sieht aus wie, except for the bottom, where they mount. You can see that extra cooling on the pneumatic to the arms look a little slightly bit longer just about an inch longer than the original anyway. Here it is from the front with the arms unfolded, more stickers, it says unfold, the front arms first unfold, the rear arms second, so there is still an order on how to unfold everything. There we go again the two drones side by side. You can see that difference in motor very, sehr ähnlich, maybe a little bit larger of a motor, but you can see that bottom mounting plate is really cool. Looking it's got hair vents for some kind of heat sink flow. It looks like one last little comparison here. Is the Mavic air we'll just pull this little guy out real, quick and just show you the size difference it's this little tiny little drone compared there. It is this one also has that similar kind of gimbal guard, where it has a two piece that should take off. So you guys are thinking about getting the Mavic air. It is a great drone, it's, just a little noisy and, Natürlich, you've only got about 17 minutes or so of flight time, as far as what my test showed, but it does have rear obstacle, avoidance, Sensoren, so very similar.
You can see there that the rear ones are here on. The back does have a light on the back and then so it does have that rear obstacle avoidance, but there's no side and there's no top obstacle avoidance. So if you really, I could see that being very, very beneficial with the side obstacle avoidance, especially if you're doing like circle around point and you're concentrating on your shot, and this guy is just circling around you. Don'T have to worry much about what's on the side of you, because the Mavic pro2 will automatically stop or avoid obstacles. It sees with its side, cameras so that's. One of the main advantages I can see as far as what the obstacle avoidance is going to allow us to do with this guy compared to the Mavic air and the original Mavic Pro a couple more things on the side. We need to pop some of these things open, so there is a USBC type Jack there. If we open up this one here, this guy looks like a reset and possibly the switch to put it in to fly with your phone, only Wi, Fi mode. If you didn't want to fly with your controller round to the other side and here's our last door and that's, where you're gon na put in your micro SD card your memory card, and it shows you how to put it in with a little graphic, it should Just push click and that door closes nicely anyway got pretty carried away with all the other drones.
Let'S just go ahead and open up this box now see what else we're getting here started up on the table and try to get this thing, updating and see how it looks. Okay, guys so continuing on before this takes entirely all day long let's just get in here into the box. Real quick of course, I'll just like to keep all my little stickers that come off the drone, just in case ever want to resell it. So let's just dig into some of the boxes here. This is all cardboard, albeit a pretty solid cardboard, so there's no foam. It looks like they're going away from the foam or out, and that could be a good thing for the environment. You know environment conscious. Of course cardboard is more biodegradable, so that's a good thing on the gi's part, so we're opening the first box – and it looks like we're gon na – have all of our connectors and stuff in here extra little joysticks for our controller different connectors. So I have a USB type c connector and then a like an older USB micro connector this little bag. Here this looks like an adapter from a USB type c to a regular micro USB that D looking type connector, and then we have our cable, which is probably gon na, be the one that we're going to be using to plug into our charger and plug into The craft, if we have to it, looks like this cable is a USB type c.
So if we do need to use this adapter we can plug in, and that brings it into the older D shape so that's. Everything in that small little box, let's just keep pulling boxes out here. This one looks like a little bit of like a rectangular pyramid shaped box kind of interesting. This looks like it's gon na be our charger, so that's everything in there we've got two things in here: we've got our cable that's, going to go directly to the wall so that's, all that is with a little nice velcro wrap with the figure eight connector on That side, which is going to go in here and then we've, got the main power brick which that's gon na plug into the battery. You can see the connectors there to charge it. Then we have a USB port, so you're gon na plug this one in to the USB port here, and you can plug this into your controller to charge it up finagling. Mit diesem Ding, taking off this sleeve there, we go don't need that anymore, and we can see that we've got one more thing here. Das ist interessant. I haven't seen this before oh cool, so it's got another built in charger with a little old D style connector. You don't have to put on this adapter and use this cable it's got one already built in to the charge, brick to charge your controller and the way this works. Is you pull this thing out of the side and I honestly still can't believe they have not changed up? This is like a modified micro SD see how it's more of a square rectangle ish.
I can't believe that they still haven't changed up that connector and give you some of those same types of connectors if they would have just made this in this rectangular slot. That would've been much better because you still have to like somehow finagle this in here and you have to look at it and make sure it's in the right direction before you do it so hopefully, and maybe the next Mavic they can upgrade this to a USB Type c, so you can put it in any way you want, because you still have to like look and make sure you match it up. So this is pretty old technology here. As far as these connectors go and man, they should really just change that up. I don't know why I DJ has not done that yet, but just a little rant sorry about that, they need to really upgrade their connectors to at least USB type c, and we've only got one more box here and it looks like this is the box for The instruction pamphlet and possibly extra propellers, Ja, not extra, aber gut, maybe one extra pair so looks like you're getting a set to put on the drone and then two extras. If for some reason you crash or they hit something which they really shouldn't, because it has all of this obstacle avoidance, so hopefully this drone is really good at avoiding obstacles and check these out. So these are more of a platinum, looking low noise propeller.
So if you're bringing the low noise props, I got from my maverick pro I purchased aftermarket. We can see that they're, even different for the Matic to the shape of the tip, is a little more sloped back and also the painting is quite a bit different there and see that it's, a thinner notch of painting and also there's some writing on the propellers. That are a little bit different. The gold ones on the right, the old ones, are eight three three one F and these ones are eight seven, Vier, three F, the new ones for the Mavic, a couple millimeters longer there and the shape is just a little bit different. Possibly they figured out that this is a more efficient propeller for the heavier weight of the Mavic and the only other thing we have left in the box of the Mavic Pro are the manuals okay guys, so it should be ready to go. I got the controller fully charged, so a quick press is just to check the battery percentage and then, Natürlich, a press press and hold is to turn it on. I want to see it took about an hour to charge up both the battery and the controller and again keep in mind that you can charge them both off the charger. Gleichzeitig, so quick press now on the battery, it does have a full charge and instead of that little battery meter, those dots that the Mavic Pro has the Mavic 2 actually has a ring that has quarter sections so as its charging when it's a Full ring like this that's four quarters, and that means it's fully charged so for this instance on this powerup and updating I'm gon na be using my LG g6 phone.
What I need to first do is: I need to change this cable. The one that it comes with is a lightning cable and that's for Apple iPhone. So I just need to take that out and plug it here and then all we're doing is we're just pushing this thing out of that little ring there until it pops out and we're just gon na. Take this whole cable out, put that to the side and we're going to put in the correct cable. So I guess this would be a good, quick little tutorial on how to switch cables. If you need to so you're just kind of threading it through there you're putting in the rectangular portion putting it into the controller just like this, so it's in there nice and tight and then all you're doing is you're taking this one here. So it comes with its own little collar already on it. You can see there so we're, all we're, actually gon na have to pop out this lightning connector collar. So I'm, just gon na push my finger in from the bottom and you can see how that pushes out so make sure you keep that with a lightning connector, Kabel. So it's, probably a good idea on this one to take that ring and make sure you remember the orientation it's at and I would just go ahead and pop the ring in first on the top of the controller like this from the outside.
Just make sure it kind of pops into that channel there we go you're going to hear a little snap and then just make sure it's going up and down nice and smooth. Then all you should have to do is push from the inside out just kind of push that connector in line it up push it back in so it kind of snugs in that nice and tight. Jetzt also, im Grunde, we have our USB type c connector we're ready to put our phone in pushing it up into the notch on the right and then we're just gon na line up the notch on the left to go in the jack. He can do this either way it doesn't really matter so I'm, just kind of looking at the bottom, where the phone is and making sure there's no gap and that's in there nice and tight. Then we can just go ahead and push this up into the bottom of the controller kind of straighten it out. So it's kind of really clamping in tightly and everything is matched up and we're ready to go so we'll turn the Mavic to around towards the front. So you guys can kind of see what the gimbals going to do as we boot it up and then just one press and press and hold so click, press press and hold and the Rings are going up. You hear the fan cut in and there we go so the gimbals throwing itself around like crazy, wow that's, a little scary.
There goes and that thing is booted up now. All we need to do is turn on the controller, so quick press press and hold until we hear the beep sound, so it's saying connecting there and bam so mag interference, and then it says also check app. So this is where we want to launch our DJI. Go for app if it doesn't already launch it looks like it already launched now. My screen is very dim. You see this here and that's, because I need to turn off the auto brightness. The auto brightness is keeping the screen from getting bright because it's covering up the sensor here. So I know I have manual brightness and turn that all the way up – and it looks like the first thing it's doing right here – is its unzipping a resource file. So I'm just gon na wait for that see what it does. Meanwhile, we can check out what the lights are doing on the Mavic. We'Ve got red lights in the front you see, those lights are really nice and bright. We'Ve got that green battery light on top and then towards the back. We'Ve got flashing, red and yellow lights right here on the back, so looking pretty good good indicators, there's no light on the actual body itself, like the Matic Pro the older version had so. While this thing is unzipping the resource file I'm just going to take this time to lift this guy up and just show you what the gimbal is doing.
So there we go there's our Mavic, hello and we're gon na move that around and check out that gimbal. So this is a three dimensional gimbal, so we have roll stabilization, we have pitch stabilization and the pitch is what we can control with the controller, the roller on the controller of course, and then we also have our yaw stabilization. So you can see how, if we have jerky movements it's going to really dampen and slow down that camera don't get that jerkiness in our video, so Gimbels working, sehr, very good Wow guys so yeah so it's been about five minutes and it never failed al. You just have problems with DGI updating initial turn on. I don't know why they haven't really solved these issues, yet it seems like they've, got so many generations already that this kind of stuff should be solved either with Android and Apple. So it's been at 57 for five minutes: unzipping resource file and there's, no reason that should be stuck there. So I think what I'm gon na do is try to back out of here. Da steht: DJI go fork cannot be opened without a resource file. Bist du sicher, well it's, apparently it's not unzipping, so I'm gon na have to press okay, so I'm gon na try opening it again and let's just see what happens? Okay. So now I got the unzipping resource file again there we go that time. It didn't hang! So still still a couple little glitches like that, I would have thought maybe they would have remedied some of those things so it's at least it's saying resource initializing.
Okay, there we go new firmware available, so these are the things you're gon na need to. Weißt du. Do on your first startup and might as well just go through them with you. It'S gon na take a little bit of time, but if you guys ever have problems at least you can reference this video and see what's up so it's, saying new firmware for remote controller, so I'm, just going to press on the red on the screen here. I'M. Just gon na go ahead and start updating now keep in mind. My phone is basically logged on to my Wi Fi at home, so we'll see how it to go. She ate Saul that so starting update, so downloading pretty quick, because it's supposedly downloading over my network at home and start updating tips, connect the remote controller and confirm the battery is over 30 Yep. I just charged it. Wir haben 96 percent still and I pressed okay. Now I got a press start updating again and again we have connect the remote controller. So does it not see the remote controller update, update log is empty start, Okay, so now I'm stuck in a loop, so still have these stupid little problems. So what I'm gon na try to do is disconnect. Maybe it doesn't see the controller anymore attached to the phone I'm gon na disconnect and I'm gon na re plug in the phone okay. Gut, now that I plugged back in, I now have an update log that just showed up, so they just basically.
These are all updates that these new drones are gon na use so I'm going to go ahead and start updating, aktualisieren, failed, restart the equipment and try again later reason, Network disconnected really Network, disconnected huh, that's kind of interesting, because I am connected to my home network. Let'S see if I disconnect from my home and just use the 4G of the phone okay, I see a 4G LTE up there on the top and let's. Try that again start updating tips. Ja, connect update, failed again, Okay, so still having problems with DJI. Warum? This should be way more simple than this, so I'm gon na I'm gon na just shut everything down, restart everything and let's. Try to pick up where we left off doing some kind of darn update, Okay, guys so let's give this another try so for good measure. I went ahead and also just rebooted my phone to make sure there was no possible problems in the software, so it's gon na go ahead and that's kind of wild. What it's doing with the camera, it just seems like it's, hitting a little harder than it should need to that kind of scares me a little bit for just the integrity of the camera for longevity. Okay, there we go so some reason. My phone went to sleep and then the app was still starting up, so it looks like it's doing a version check now. We'Re hearing the fan come on on the Matic.
The interesting thing is I'm feeling my phone slightly vibrate that or it's the controller. Just very slightly vibrating: gut, it looks like the Mavic is saying it is disconnected down there on the bottom, so I wonder what's up with that it's almost like we're having some kind of like USB issue. Okay, so I was having the weirdest issues with my USB connecting and disconnecting to the aircraft. It just did it just now, but here we are in the activation screen, so let's see if it works so I'm going to click Next to activate authorize, agree and we want to name our aircraft so I'm, just going to name it Mavic to pro. Okay accept and continue, and then we have our modes so I'm, going to pick mode to connect just heard a beep, and now we have kind of on the front of our screen. Here we have this little readout display of what everything means here. So you guys, if you want to look at that and go ahead and pause that see what all that means oh and check it out. It just disconnected again so really weird I'm having these intermittent disconnecting disconnection issues, and it feels like the USB keeps like disconnecting and reconnecting so just really strange and now it's like completely disconnected apparently maybe some sort of software bug with the newest Android see. If I can work this frustrating activation process out again, I'm always having these issues with DJ products, I don't know why, but they really need to figure this stuff out man.
This could really turn a customer off if they're, trying to activate they're having these kinds of issues. So now it's, not even reconnecting it's, just completely disconnected let's see what happens if I unplug my USB here plug this back in ok. So I just felt a couple of vibrations and now it's connected again what's, going on let's. Try to activate this again next already. Did this continue there's ours? Okay, there we can customize our c1c2 buttons. Those are the trigger buttons on the bottom. I want Imperial mile per hour beginner mode off. If you have it on you, can't go more than a hundred feet, high and 100 feet out so I'm. Turning that off and now I need to sign into my DJ account so I'm gon na sign in and register DJ refresh, you can get that if you want I'm gon na bypass that for now, but the refresh, Natürlich, is you have to do this within 48 hours of activating your aircraft and you get a couple of free replacements if it's crashed and it's, nicht deine Schuld, if it crashes, please restart the aircraft to complete the activation, restart. Jetzt, still a little bit weird about look at that camera, it's just banging all over the place, my goodness all right, Da steht, activation, successful and we're ready to go so before your first flight. You can improve your flying skills with a built in flight simulator, so let's do the flight simulator, if maybe you're a new pilot or skip I'm gon na skip it precise fly and safe database update we'll, go ahead and just update this update now it's.
Just basically updating the airport database, I guess and possibly clamping you down to limited Heights and hopefully not distance knock on wood, but it doesn't seem like my USB has disconnected recently fly safe database has been updated, okay has been updated to latest version is just telling Us that same thing up there so now we should be able to finally go into go and fly and let's see what happens there. We go so we're. Finally into the UI. We have some safety tips here. I'M, just gon na press don't show again we have our aircraft status, so we want to calibrate our compass and it's, saying there's updates required so I'm, nicht gon na. Do the calibrate my compass right now, you really want to calibrate your compass when you're at your flying field in the park away from interference, not in your house, where there's all kinds of magnetic interference so I'm, just gon na press. This updates required button here and see what the heck it's needs to update. So apparently there is another update, but it looks like this is the same. Updated said it already did, and these are the stupid issues you get with pardon my french, but with DJI. It says is, updates and never finishes. You see that so look at this update failed. So what is the problem? So guess what guys tried a bunch of different things? ich dachte. Maybe the USB cable here was bad.
I got bad one because my android phone just kept disconnecting and connecting to the usb. So I went ahead and booted up my Mavic air and put my phone in and no problem. Everything just worked perfectly fine, so apparently maybe there's some bugs right now with Android and the new Mavic. So if you have that issue, maybe you want to try an apple product. Dgi is kind of known for working better with Apple, Weiß nicht. Maybe they have some behind the scenes deal with Apple, Wer weiß, but it just always seems to work better with Apple and here's. What happened so I plugged in my iPad to the controller. Initially it said your device is not compatible. I went into my updates on my Apple and it said I need to update to the newest version of DJI go for so I updated and everything just works perfectly. If I go back into my DJI account, I don't have any red flags here for updating or anything so apparently with Apple it's, Arbeiten, fein, so kind of unfortunate. If you have an Android phone right now, you might have some issues, so I think what I'm gon na do is. I have a bracket from my Mavic Pro that just clamps in here and then I can clamp my iPad on so I'll. Probably just do that for the initial flight test, but just to let you guys know and save you some frustration if you're watching this video and you have an Android and you had the problems I had, especially with that USB off and on thing that was happening.
It may just be a bug right now and they need to work that out so anyway, Wie Sie sehen können, no updates required start in the flying film and iPad Mini will fit right in here, so it's good to have maybe an iPad Mini. Even if you don't have any data or problems or don't, even like Apple, just to make sure you have the best compatible device, DJI drones seem to like Apple the best. Also, Wie Sie sehen können, everything is working perfectly. We do have a little bit of a different layout here. You can see how we have our map on the right on Apple, especially the iPad, and we also have our compass over here since it's such a big screen. We do have more real estate, so we have our compass or map and our UI displayed all in one. If I go ahead and open the map up can see that we have. The compass is still over here and we have our real time fpv there as well. So if we wanted to just fly by map, we have both readouts there. So everything everything looks really good. I'M gon na go ahead and go into the controller and it looks like hyperlapse yeah hyperlapse is still grayed out, so apparently they have not got that working yet so you know we'll have to see how that works out in the future guys. There are a couple of cons we can learn from this initial unboxing and setup.
Android phones might give you huge problems. There really need to work on that. I was completely frustrated. I was almost to the point. I really wanted to just slam this controller on the floor. They really need to get Android on the bandwagon here and fix the bugs they have, and also the second con here is why aren't they giving any micro SD cards, at least in my box, even in the pamphlet that comes in the box. That shows you what's in the box, there's no listing of any micro SD cards, so you're gon na have to spend that extra 30 Böcke 40 bucks to get one and for the price of this thing they should just include one. I think they should include one that's gon na support the highest possible quality that this camera can shoot. So you have the full customer experience right out of the box, spark Mavic air Matic Pro, even the phantoms, the phantom pro the phantom 4. They all included the micro SD card, so if you're spending this kind of money come on DG, I include the stuff. We need everything in the box to get in the air, so we're not frustrated, Hallo Leute. I hope you liked that review, even though we didn't get the Android phone really working. The iPad works. fein, no issues whatsoever. Once I updated the app on the iPad, so I'm, wahrscheinlich gon na, be flying with this iPad in the flight test, so bleiben sie dran.
For that and don't forget again, I'll have the links down the description down below so check out the links if you're interested in purchasing one of these they're not cheap, but this is the newest version of the Mavic. This is a Mavic 2 pro, especially, is more expensive than the Mavic zoom. I think it's 200 more expensive and up if you get the flam or combo, which I got, which we'll be getting to in its own little unboxing. You just didn't have enough time in this video running way too long, but I think I went pretty in depth on everything go ahead and comment in the in the description. If you have any questions, if I missed anything, but you would like to know, I can go ahead and answer your comments, but anyway guys thanks for tuning in and don't forget make sure you subscribe hit that notification bell. So you are notified when I do my flight test, I do very in depth and real world flight tests. I don't try to cherry coach sugarcoat anything I make it really. I show the bads. I show the goods. I show the pros ester the cons of how this thing flies in real world and we're also going to do range tests and some cinematic footage as well.
