Runcam Link Phoenix HD or Caddx Cams? – Review & Comparison 🏆 🧡
Today, if you want to get entered in to win our flywheel cinerace20 hd version with a dji transmitter on board, it is the cadx vista running 700 milliwatt and its around a 300 to 400 quad. It also has a polar nano on there, so um super nice camera and a 4s little two inch quad with inverted motors on here um super nice, make a comment subscribe on the channel and youll get entered to win. This one also send us an email on dronecamps.com on our contacts page to get yourself entered to win, octobers giveaway, so without further ado. Im here to talk about, run, cam link in phoenix hd today from run cam ive been waiting for these guys to come out with their own version of this air light module um and now its called the link. It looks exactly like the cadx vista, the original air light module as they call it um, and you can see its pretty much the same casing. Everything is made in the same factory as you can tell all the boards are the same in here. It has the same voltage range on here. Also, it accepts other cameras on here that are all in the dji line, so whatever dji camera you have out there. If you have a vista – and you want to buy just this phoenix from runcam, you can do that and put it on a cadx vista module or the air light module.
So um thats kind of nice now, which one do i prefer the original air module or the lighter version. I i would say i i if i was going to fly this on a fixed wing, i prefer that i have the air module. The full blown air module has two antennas on it, whereas these smaller light modules as theyre called they have a singular antenna on there plugged into an ipex connector right here so um. They also have s bus inputs on them, and the voltage ranges from 2 to 4s dont plug in anything over 4s on here, but whats different about this one is well its called the link, and secondly, it is the phoenix camera thats on here and um im Going to go through a few of these cameras today, im going to let you know which ones i like the best and well do a little comparison as well and ill. Show you the original dji camera, which is, i would say, still my favorite and most of the others in the fpv communitys favorite. But this one is looking pretty good and were going to test it out in the backyard today up against some of the other dji cameras that are available im going to show you different light conditions and how it how well it does in and out of the Trees, the lightness darkness contrasts and all that is a factor. So this one is also a 16×9 camera and it has a 60fps.
The original dji camera has around 120 fps. So if you can find that one in stock somewhere grab that one, i know that um cadx probably does have the new uh air light unit with the original dji camera on there now in stock. I believe around a week ago it wasnt in stock, but now it is in stock. You can check out the link down below for that one, but ill also put the link for the phoenix hd down there as well, but without further ado lets, go ahead and do a little bit of flying and well come back on the bench and ill talk About some of the specs on this particular link unit and the phoenix hd camera, and also the new leak antenna from ryan cam, pretty cool im super stoked that they sent me this one for a review and test for you guys as always and uh. I will give you an honest review on the phoenix and the link here. We go okay, my friends lets go ahead and compare this camera to some of the other ones out there phoenix hd is looking pretty good. The colors are nice and saturated today were flying. It on the auk rtf, which is what i reviewed on the channel yesterday, go back and check that review out now check this out in comparison to the cadx nebula pro. The pro looks pretty good and it doesnt have a lot of that.
Glow effect that we see on most of the dji cameras out there with the exclusion of the original dji camera. Now, the phoenix hd does have nice color saturation and it looks bright enough to fly around the yard and it also flies great, slow and fast. The frame rate is fast enough to be able to just really kick it around the yard, but in the comparison this is an overcast day flying the nebula pro, and i was kind of happy that i was able to see this much and avoid all the scraggle Through the trees fly low and fast and really see what im doing flying around tree, canopy thats super important for me, because i do a lot of videos where i fly really really low. So i feel like the phoenix hd doesnt. Let me down there where it goes up. Higher is where you can really see the cloud definition and the lack of cloud definition in the phoenix hd. So the nebula pro doesnt seem to have as much cloud definition as something like the original dji air module camera, which i will show you coming up soon. But i feel, like the nebula process, may be a little bit better than the phoenix hd. As far as camera quality goes and in comparison to the original dji camera, i mean well, you know. The phoenix hd is a good choice. If youre just going to be doing standard type of flying for long range applications, i still prefer the original dji camera.
The greatest example between these two cameras: they both look great down low to the ground, but the phoenix hd does have that sort of glow effect to it. Now, when we come up a little higher in the air is where you can see the definition difference between the original dji camera and the new phoenix hd. Now look how muddy the clouds are, the phineas hd and look at the original dji camera. How much definition in the clouds you have there big difference in these two when you get up higher if youre doing low level flying its, not a big problem and now moving on to compare the nebula nano camera versus the phoenix hd, i think you have a Clear understanding that the nebula nano is not super popular out there, it has a lot of glow effect to it and it seems to have this weird cloudy feel so its enough for watching that now were going to check out the original nebula camera and again theres More glow to this camera, and while it does have a nice definition, it feels like just flying something fairly cloudy. So its not really my preferred camera ill, probably avoid those cameras. I feel like the phoenix hd by itself, though, is a decent choice. It doesnt have as much cloud effect to it as the nebula series cameras do and if i were going to go for either one of those in comparison. If this one was in stock id grab this one and fly it because it does seem to kind of just shoot around the yard at high speed fairly well, it handles this 60 fps seems to be acceptable for flying at high speeds around the yard, so um, Some of you guys that are flying faster than this might notice it, but um if you, if you need a higher frame rate, go for the 120 fps if you can find it and a lot of its not in stock right now.
There i had some kind of breakup right there around the shed caught a leaf and happily uh. I was able to shake that leaf off and continue my flight, but i feel like overall. This is not a bad camera and uh im, not gon na dog. It out too much today, so lets go back to the studio, real, quick and lets talk about it on the bench all right, my friends welcome back from the flight test. You know whats great about hd. You can definitely see the cairns coming in hd and any scraggle thats reaching out to grab your quad. You can really get in there nicely with these type of hd systems, and i feel like the runcam phoenix hd is not bad. I could do some really precise, slow flying through tree canopy with this camera. It also has a nice night effect to this one, it, i would say its, probably not as good as the um, the polar starlight camera. I really like the polar a lot, but this one also has a half inch sensor on there, so its a high ultra high sensitivity sensor and it has a decent knife flying effect on there. It is also running 60 fps resolution at 1280×720, so it is comparable to the other cameras out there. Um the polar starlight is also 60fps and the polar nano that i have here 60fps. This is a standard micro, size camera and this one is the nano size camera for whoops and things and again thats the polar nano on this one and still kind of a brand new camera out there and and im enjoying this one, because its also a small Format and it does decently well, it does also have uh lightness and brightness adjustment and color adjustment, whereas the phoenix hd does not from run cam.
So if you want to adjust brightness and contrast – and things like that, you wont have to get the polar star light for the polar nano the camera to avoid out there. You know the elephant in the room is, is definitely the the one that really stinks its. The nebula nano it has this sort of strange star light effect over the whole thing. It has sort of a glowing effect and it seems like it seems, like a lot of these cameras, have a weird glow effect to them. Um – and i dont know what that is, it might be something in the way that this translates back to the goggles from these type of sensors. It seems like the best camera out there still to date, and i dont know why anybody cant make a camera comparable to it and maybe its djis labs. I mean because you know what face it: dji has the biggest budget out there when they made that original air module camera that one rocks and it you know. I can show you some video of that right now and it doesnt have a lot of that. Weird glowing effect that you know something like the nebula nano has um. Has this really bad cloudy image to it that one was also running 30 milliseconds at 60fps, so those kind of suck um and the original air module was running 120 fps? The polar is running 60 fps, the cadx vista unit, that a lot of people like thats the air light unit, uh air unit, light with the original dji camera on there that ones running at 120 fps.
So the the phoenix hd is 60 fps as well. 32. Milliseconds and 157 degree field view on that, one, but again that the module is essentially the same has all the same buttons on here. One button for binding up to your goggles or the dji transmitter. It has the built in receiver. So it does have a s. Bus port on there that will go down to your flight controller and you can bind it up through sbus to your dji controller. Now. One thing that i have to mention is: i do have a longer cable on here for your larger type builds. This is a 12 centimeter cable, going from the link unit to the phoenix hd camera that is nice. That allows us to get this into the center of the stack on a seven inch quad or a six inch frame and complete the build. Recently. I had a friend of mine, diego was working on a build and he had. I believe he had like one of the nebula cameras and it was quite a bit shorter, probably around three inches or so, and he just he didnt have quite enough length because the way that the the camera was being installed and the vtx module it just he Didnt have enough length there so its nice that this one has a pretty nice long, camera wire here, and the other thing about the camera wire is guys if youre still with me here.
This camera can be added backwards, compatible to the caddix vista unit and the air light unit. I believe this will also hooked up to the original air module. So if you have that larger one with the dvr on there 1080p at 60 frames per second, this camera should be able to be hooked up to that original air module unit as well its the same harness on all of these units, so its pretty universal, and These are all made by dji in their factories most likely. So all these units appear to be the same type of grade very, very nice, the cameras themselves, those are likely being produced by runcams factories and cadecs the same with cadex. I dont know if cadets is produced in djis factories – probably not, but all the connections again are the same im. Looking at this connection guide here – and we have red for power, thats 7.4 volt to 16 or actually 17.6 volt so essentially 2 to 4s dont plug in anything over never plug in this straight to 6s, itll itll, just fry it immediately. We have black for ground. We have uart, rx is white gray, is you are tx and black? Is your signal for ground and yellow? Is your sbus cable, which is compatible with the dji transmitter and i dont believe you can? Actually, you cant hook this up to any of the other, like four in one multi protocol modules out there, as of yet they havent backwards, like reverse engineered that, yet it would be nice, you also in in the box, you get a six pin, jst cable, that Has a harness on the end of it, but again the phoenix hd is not bad.
I think that um its nice to see something licensed coming from run. Cam now – and i mean i would put this camera on just about any of my fpv quads – that have a dji vtx on there, honestly because it looks decent its a its a good start and this ones licensed, whereas some of the other run cam hd options Are not um so its its good to see them get straight with dji. I really like that, so we can get straight with dji and we can also avoid the carons as well. So please do subscribe on the channel guys. I have more reviews coming up this week, some pretty cool stuff, coming up lots of new releases coming out from these companies, so um go back and and check out the video from yesterday of the auk. This was a really fun quad and today just for funsies. I put this unit on this one and flew it around in the yard, for you guys just to test, and it did surprisingly well its very smooth, even in a tight space like this backyard, a four inch quad is really tight for a small backyard. So a four inch can get going quite fast, and this transmission, coming back to my goggles, did quite well out there um. It did freeze up one time, so we had one freeze up on this unit and i dont know if it was coming from the camera which just somewhere got a little bit clogged and bam.
It came to a complete freeze, so thats the the honest. The most honest part of my review guys, i always do super honest reviews and tell you guys all the details um. So it may be that this one was a prototype. Take it with a grain of salt. I have had other units freeze up on me and my goggles before and when that happens, its like lights out, you only see one image and your quad is still flying across the air um. That was some of the original complaints with dji system in general um and a lot of analog guys were like im, never flying hd, but here we are all today wanting and flying dji, so um dji is kind of ruling. The pool and now run cam is in the game its nice to see so you can check out my top five dji cameras and vtx combos down below.
