This is the baby hawk 2 hd that has just been released today from emacs usa, i’m justin davis and with over 10 years of fpv flying experience. I am no stranger to emacs usa. They have been around since almost the beginning of the fpv hobby and the craze and today i’m, a little bit nostalgic because we have a new baby hawk baby hawk was originally released, probably two to three years ago now, with the super tiny one that was flying On i believe it was a 2s battery. I took you guys out to the cliffs of oregon and we did some freestyle with that sub 250 g little brushless mini fun machine now, here we are with a mega fun machine with the maximum size props. For this type of performance, on a 4s 850 battery with a 4.2 millimeter bottom plate on here, it’s a unibody plate and sort of a stripped down design that keeps everything at about 242 grams, with the 850 on board, which is kind of amazing there’s. A lot of room inside this quad still they really really strip. This thing down, put the nebula pro on here, it’s, the v2 pro we have a back seat, cadx vista running the dji digital fpv at 700 milliwatts. So we can get way out there. With this, you can get it buying and fly right now with, i believe, a few different receivers, i believe fr sky, xm plus, is also available and you can fly it with the dji remote, not the new dji remote that comes with the fpb drone, but it Will bind up and the the cadets nebula is wired straight to their f4 flight controller.
We’Ve got 25 amp esc’s on here, and we have an xt30 connector and you’re gon na get like four minutes ripping freestyle with this new a50. That they’ve, designed for the baby hawk 2 or you’re, going to get about eight minutes flight time with just a cruising flight. Now, if you’re a beginner, this quad is a little advanced for somebody who’s a beginner. However, if you are somebody who already has owned say, like the emacs, tiny hawk too ready to fly kit, you started out there. You learned how to fly acro with that was your acro trainer and then, if you had say one more quad like a 2.5 inch or even a 2 inch series, maybe even a ducted whoop. You could move up to this. As maybe say, your third quad, the performance on this quad is one of the best performing quads i’ve ever flown under 250 grams and that’s the point of this release this year. There are a lot of people that are interested in flying quads. Now, with all the new regulations coming down the pipe from the faa, not wanting to put transponders and remote id on the quads, so the 250 ge class is going to be huge in 2021, so um we want extreme toys, essentially it’s. What we want so emacs has developed this with their race team pilots. They put their own tune on here. It is a custom pit tune that you don’t have to worry about when you take off having jitters or wobbles or vibrations at the high end of the stick around power loops at the bottom end of a power loop, full speed, it is extremely precise, fast and Very well controlled, so the tune on here.
I realized, after about 10 seconds after taking off for the first time with this quad that this was an insanely tuned and high performance machine. It it kind of blew me away and after i flew it a handful of times, i was pushing the limits of what i can do in freestyle. I was doing power loops and have throwing loops in the middle of power loops. So i was doing you know crazy stuff that i’ve never done before, which is kind of fun, so um very, very fun. To fly right out of the box. Excellent tune, great flight time and durable components on here that are going to take a hit. So a 4.2 millimeter bottom plate is kind of unheard of for the sub 250 g class, which i think is really really cool, so very durable, great tune and parts on here that are not going to cost an armament leg to replace. If you bust out a motor, they are the eco series motors and they’re a little better price than some of the other types of high performance motors out there, but these are extremely hopped up on a 4s 850, i mean i can’t even explain how fast this Quad is and how nimble and how well tuned so i got ta say congratulations to the emacs team for an insanely good release, um just a beautiful flying quad. I love this machine and i think that this one should be one of their best sellers this year.
It should sell out – and if you like, freestyle – and you like to rip with precision the baby hawk 2 hd is a precision ripper under 250 grams hands down uh. You know i got ta say i support this squad. Two thumbs up: um full devil horns here: rock and roll metallica beastie boys jane’s addiction, all in one little quad i mean this thing is a rock show, so let’s go ahead and put the 4s 850 on here and let’s fly it after that we’ll come back To the studio, we’ll put it on the bench. We’Ll talk about specifically what emacs has designed here for you guys with this release. I think it should be a sellout, so let’s go ahead and hop on the sticks. Do some freestyle and we’ll come back in here? We go so so so so, oh okay, guys, i am going to give you just kind of a quick like after flight report, i’ve been wondering when emacs was gon na. Do it again – and i really hate to say this but – and i know my haters are gon na hate this, because i’m gon na say it’s the best three inch i’ve ever flown january 2021. The baby hawk hd binding flag category, guys we’re, not talking like custom builds here. Not comparing this to your custom, builds i’m talking about something you can buy, bind up out of the box. Take it out there and fly this thing the tune on here, it’s 99.
I had tiniest bit of wobble a few of those maneuvers on these big trees over here. These big trees behind me are my power. Loop go to trees and i was doing loops inside loops power loops with a loop in the middle on the way back around. Throwing twist in it um, it was so tight and snappy over five minutes flight time with an 850 battery still under 250g, i mean what else more. Do you want dj island here, eco motors, all in one flight controller, cadx vista nebula pro? This is one of the ones that emac should sell the most i mean not a beginner quad, maybe your second or third quad, but it rips frickin, balls and i’m. Not joking and i don’t care what anybody says. Oh you say: it’s the best dude you can’t. You can’t say anything until you’ve actually flown this thing so for the haters enjoy your big bowl of hater soup, because this thing is good and emacs did a great job on producing this one for over two years in the in the works. So it has my endorsement two thumbs up: um we’re gon na take this back inside now, we’re gon na check it out on the bench you guys and uh yeah one of my friends who is the lucky man to get this one um you guys might have To fight for this one because uh, i don’t know when i’m gon na give this up but yeah good luck, you guys um it’s, it’s, amazing, just freaking, fantastic amazing! I don’t even have the words to describe this thing anyway, guys: okay, it’s been a long time since i was really excited about any particular quad with this much enthusiasm.
So you know an educated opinion that’s. What you’re? Looking for guys all right? Okay, let’s go back to the studio and uh break this thing down a little further show you some specs on it. We’Ll talk about what’s on here and um i’ll, give you my overall pidtune flight opinion and everything else. Here we go guys all right guys. Welcome back from the flight test that was so much fun to fly. This quad and i meant to say in the very first part of this review that i had so much fun flying it with the first handful of batteries that i was like kind of scared to fly again, because i do really stupid stuff. When i i get really excited with a new quad that flies extremely good, i just take a lot of chances with it and you know i’m kind of like one of those reviewers that, like i just like, i go full throttle and i try to get the Craziest gaps and i end up smacking trees and the concrete and everything else and just really destroying stuff, and you get a lot of durability test on my channel because i get really excited – and i do just i just do crazy stuff, so um i wanted to Do a lot of crazy stuff with this quad um and i tried to to to not destroy this quad because it’s, like i mean it’s, like your friend, giving you the keys to like their porsche and letting you go by yourself on a drive um, you try Not to wreck it and that’s what i was really trying not to do to wreck this quad for you guys so um 238.
4.3 grams, with the 850 on board and again that is emax’s new 850 battery, see if i can get it to focus in there. A little bit for the small text, but a very, very high performance battery it’s, not swelling at all. I did fly these a handful of times at super high throttle. So i think the motors are pretty efficient and i have to say that i love the design. It does remind me, somewhat of like the catalyst machine works type of quads, with this dual strut design and internal bracing there, which is really cool but it’s, not something that is like a clone of a catalyst machine works, quad um, the the uh the droner. I believe it’s a droner series, it kind of reminds me of but we’ve got that top mount battery full size, emax straps and these straps are nice because they are sort of dual dual layer strap with the plastic coating on the inside of the strap and that Grabs onto the battery quite nice we’ve got the 3m sticky tape right there. That kind of keeps the battery on board and the great thing with the combo of this type of strap – and this is it keeps it from flying off the quad other instances. I’Ve had a cheaper, strap with no velcro here and the battery flies off in in a crash um, so that’s, something that can happen and one other tip for you guys if you’re, if you’re buying this quad make sure you zip tie this power cable off to The frame here, because if this gets pulled off the flight controller here it will, it will be done, you’ll break the tabs off um.
So right now it doesn’t have any type of zip tie on. You can probably even zip tie it to this in the center post right here, and it will keep it from. If this battery does eject, it will keep it. It will save your flight controller and your escs. So what they’ve done here is the whole point of this design is that they have basically stripped down this quad and adding the maximum amount of thickness here on this bottom plate that they could, by making it 4.2 millimeter and shaving off a lot of weight internally. So if you look in here there’s a lot of room left over once they just added the single layer, flight controller, esc combo, which is really really nice it’s, an f4 stm32 f411 that’s the firmware on there, four in one 25 amp escs that handle 4s. If this thing was 6s i’m, not even sure what i would do with this, it would be so crazy. So it is still extremely high performance on 4s and again this would not be your first quad, but you know, i would say, buy this quad and keep it in the box until you learn how to fly acro and then pick up this quad once you have Flown acro enough say for a month or two in the simulator and outdoors with your trainer, quads and and fire this thing up after you learn how to fly acro and you will have a ball.
These are the eco series motors on here, they’re emax branded. We have four bolts holding that motor to that unibody plate and there’s eco there, and we have. We just try to zoom way in here and see if we can get that to focus. These are 1404 3700 kvs nice. Looking motor the coils look tight in there. Two bolt configuration for the props, these are m2 bolts and they are holding down the new 3.5 inch prop. This is the avon 3.5 inch prop and i’ve talked about these props before on the channel. They are a larger version of the 2 and 2.5 inch ones, but they are the same type of mold i’m, just a little bit bigger, but so what’s special about this prop is i’ve said before these are kind of like skateboard wheels. They are super super durable. They are really thick in the core the center and it really holds the prop on well, if you take a direct hit so with all that thickness here, it adds a lot of strength in the prop, and i generally can bend these props back it’s. That kind of prop, where it’s so thick, that i can bend it back and fly this prop again. We have sort of a medium core here, really thin on the leading edge out to the trailing edge and a really nice tapered tip out here. So we have like a slight bull nose there, not a true point on the end of that, but they are quiet, and this little curve and angle right here is different than i’ve.
Seen on just about any other props so – and we have quite a bit of pitch look at the pitch on here – this is a high amount of pitch, so what this does is it gives you a really nice feeling on the the mid stick point to the High end of the throttle – and it has a ton of punch and a lot of float, so it it gives you extra time to do freestyle, maneuvers with a weight class at 3.5 inch with this quad that’s some serious performance when you strip all this weight down. You add all this power, and it just gives you a ton of time and hang time to be able to think about what you’re going to do next in a freestyle maneuver, when i was doing power loop with a loop inside a power loop, it was because I had so much control and the right amount of hang time and response so that the response on the sticks is extremely precise and beautifully pid tuned. I i i just i i feel like it’s again like it’s, like your friend’s, like sports car, you get to drive for the day, but this thing after you buy it it’s yours and you can drive it every day, which is great. So i think that it’s going to be durable. I do think this bottom plate is going to hold up pretty well in most year crashes into grass. I think you could probably fly this into a tree and it would probably uh survive a tree branch hit and then i i’ve actually with these same style props.
I have mowed through like cut branches out of a tree and kept flying um, so you can expect some great performance out of these props. They’Re they’re extremely well performed very, very nice. So inside the box you guys get a little bit of extras, not a lot of extras. I got one set of props, i kind of wish i got two set, but you might probably get two set in the production version of this. You do get a support card for international and usa in canada, here, usa and canada on the left there and international there, and they have their two websites. They have emacsusa.com and they have an international site. So i’ll put the links down below for all my us guys and i’ll try to find the international link as well for you, so you don’t have to type it in. You can just click the link, but they have all their social media, facebook, instagram and their youtube channel on there as well all those resources for you guys, and then we also have the cadex vista specs on here. This is up to 700 milliwatt on this back seat: cadx vista with the nebula pro v2 up front with a decent amount of camera protection, and i got to show you this real quick. I didn’t show you this before, but they have tpu around these posts. So that’s pretty cool, you can see that this just adds a little more camera protection and just something that is going to kind of bounce if it hits something and they have those extensions coming to the camera there for the mount, which is really nice and in The back we’ve got a shorty cherry antenna back here.
This is the cadex cherry and let’s see how they’ve done this so it’s, going up through the carbon right here and there’s. A tiny, tiny mount right here with two bolts and some lock nuts here and that comes out and around up to the vista we’ve got our usb c port. There the bind button for your goggles. You turn your dji goggles on you press the button on the goggles and it’ll start beeping, and then you press this button. But you have to give the quad a second to load up when you pair up the goggles. So, if you’ve never done that before it’s a it’s, a pretty easy process, i bind these up just about daily when i get a new hd quad in so um it’s really really easy to do. Another thing i noticed was that they used a membrane, a plastic membrane in between the flight controller and the escs, which is great, so you don’t have any chances to short anything out because baby, this flight controller is mounted like right on the deck it’s interesting. The way this thing is mounted very, very short posts, and i like it’s hard for me to even show them to you, because they are super short, but you can see the mount points on the bottom. There four point mount: it is a 45 degree angle mount but extremely low, extremely low. Look at that and it’s almost like slightly recessed in certain parts right there.
You can see that that’s, i believe, that’s the boot button and you can see all the tabs there. Everything is soldered down to the board and all the solder joints look really good in there. They look all super shiny, really nice, high quality solder we’ve got our capacitor there as well all ready to go and an interesting front cable for the battery, so it’s usually coming out the back, but emacs decided to do it in the front and they do have Four holes here for mounting any type of camera mount. So if you want to do like a tpu 3d printed mount on the front of this, they do have that four bolt top plate right there. So they did put those extra bolts there for holes there for adding your camera mount, but what a great looking quad you guys i’m really happy with this one, and hopefully you enjoyed this review. I i think that this at this class should be a total sellout. Um, i think that they have a total winner here, some extra hardware in the box, with some posts and some grommets and things for your flight controller. I believe again, you probably will get two pairs of props in the production version, and this one should be a great seller this year for for emacs, mainly because it’s just awesome, the whole thing is just it’s great, it looks cool, it flies great. It actually doesn’t fly great. It flies amazing, so uh pick up some 4s 850s and some 650s.
If you want to get them, this quad under 250, with your insta360 go 2 on there and pair it up with your dji goggles and just go. Have a freaking blast: it is a rocket this quad, i love it and uh. I i just don’t have anything bad to say about it, um if someone else has bad stuff to say about it, i’d love to know. But let me know down in the comments below what you think about the baby: hawk 2 hd series i’m, so glad to see that the baby hawk came back, it’s, it’s, really cool. So, congratulations to emacs for a beautiful design and new release that i think, should do extremely well, um, just a total blast, and it makes me happy to fly freestyle again with this quad it’s, very inspiring, so guys, uh post your comments and uh share with me. What you think about the baby hawk 2 hd.
