We did a review of rockwell park, but here we are. This is my home course for teeny park disc golf. It is both a mix of wide open bomber holes and tight wooded lines. It’S about a nine and nine split it’s, a beautiful course uh. There are there’s some long grass out here, there’s some wildlife out here uh, but there is a great variety of shots: there’s, some beautiful holes, uh and it’s, one of the most challenging courses in central connecticut, so we’re going to take you through it, and i hope You enjoy it alright, so here we are at hole one. This is a ‘1 foot par 3 it’s a challenging starting hole, but it is gorgeous. You see, you got a wide tunnel, it’s a straight shot. The hole is obscured down to the right. It is a very difficult too what i’m going to try and do is throw a hyzer, flip that’s going to fade right and see if i can get it down there far enough, where i have a long look at it, your misses to the left. You’Ll have a look at the hole on the right side. It is very crowded, there’s a lot of traffic and it is a very difficult shot to get close to the basket. If you miss right, a challenging way to start off the round here wide left. I couldn’t quite get the turn on it, but i ended up left side on the hill.
I’Ll have a clean look to throw straight into the basket, but it is a very tough uh hole, as i was saying to try and get close really. You just don’t want to make a mistake here: it’s a hole that should be an easy three um, but can easily get away from you so not too unhappy to be on the left side, little awkward footing i’m in a big pile of sticks here. But i got a clean line: easy view of the basket, just throwing a forehand pitch up trying to hit that hill, so a good three on uh. What can be a challenging hole, uh happy to walk away with the first whole par? Well: number: two: a 298 foot r3: this is another challenging hole. It’S it’s got a tight gap in the middle. What you got to do, or what i’m going to try and do is force something over with some anhyzer try and hit that gap going right to left and then bend it back towards the hole you just got to make sure you hit that gap in the Middle because it is treacherous along the left side, there is a ton of vegetation right side, not too bad, but harder to approach the holes okay. So we struggled off the tee here. It’S gon na be a a tricky hole. Um, a frustrating four here is likely just because shot so far left. That is the danger on this hole.
If you nick anything and go hard left, uh you’re, basically just punching out from there so jake off in the woods over here, we’re gon na see if he could pitch out here. It goes up and making a tree over there. So the miss here once you get through the initial gap, is to kind of end a little bright towards one’s fairway over right past. That tree line that’ll. Give you a better look up at the basket over here, but in that area, on the left, where jake was in the deep rough you can see he’s coming out right over there. You do not want to be over there all right, so we’re at the third hole it’s at 358 foot par 3.. You can see we’re in an open field, but the green is enclosed into the forest uh. It is a tough shot to get onto the green. You got to throw something that either flips up to straight and just finishes right at it or kind of hyzer through the forest on the right side, it’s a difficult two, but it is definitely gettable i’m, going to throw a thunderbird and put a little anti on It and just try and get it going straight at it and see if i can access that green low, you want to just be somewhere in the field if you’re not going to get into the grain you’d rather be short because then you got an easy look.
Just to chip up into it, if you get the distance right, but you don’t have the accuracy it’s a lot of trouble on both sides and it falls off beyond the grain. So you got to be careful, it’s kind of a touchy shot on the approach and you don’t want to have too much to deal with if you’re, on either side of it. Great kick. Trees are in my favor today, so as you’re walking into this green. You can see it’s flat in here. This is an ideal landing zone right around here. As long as you’re not coming in too fast. You ideally have a slower fairway driver or mid range coming in here, but once you get to the pin, there is a very dramatic drop off. So anything that skips in this area or around the hole is going to be a long way off. You can get a lot of rollaways if you hit cage here and you can kind of see tons of woods over this way, not as bad over here. So if you’re hyzering out near the hole. This is an okay area, but another one here – and this is kind of a theme throughout this course there’s, not a ton of easy twos um. You really got to throw some pretty great shots to to park these holes or give yourself a nice birdie. Look. Fourth, hole: 366 foot par 3. This is where the teeth of the course really sets in um.
It is a tunnel. It goes down, there’s a hill in the middle of the fairway, and it goes down again and then up for an elevated, green uh. There is a ton of danger on both sides. You got to hit the fairway here if you want to a shot just at par the two i try and take out of my mind if there, if you lace, one and you fillet this hole, but this one i’m trying to play for three i’m gon na Try and play it smart, but even that sometimes goes wrong. So that’s just what i wanted. I got beyond the um big mound in the middle in the fairway. I am off to the left, but i got far enough that i’m past a lot of the danger. Um – and i should have a good look at the green all right so here’s my drive landed, you can see. I i made it past uh, this sort of elevated part of the fairway um, where there are a few trees to kind of negotiate. I’M. Far enough. Where i’ll have a look at this elevated green, but regardless of where you are, unless you’re on the upslope there’s, so much to still uh ruin your hole, there’s big trees, there’s little trees, there’s branches, um and it’s on that slope. So if you don’t hit it right, you could end up rolling away as well. So a lot of danger here, tough, green, very challenging hole.
So i’m gon na try and get one up there and get a good three hit. My gap um a little bit too far, but i have a comebacker i’m happy with that i’m on the green, with a look at three, which is all you can ask for here all right, so i was able to get my three on four, but that brings Us to what is arguably the hardest hole on the course and that’s the fifth hole, um, so it’s a few steps off the screen, but you’ll see once we get there. There is very little fairway to work with. It takes a very specific shot to get all the way down there, um and it’s not reachable to get a two. It is a very challenging part. Three it’s one of those tweeners where a lot of people are making fours um and you walk away kind of happy with that. You can kind of see here, it’s, it’s, tight. You got this one in the middle. The shape of the fairway goes out. Left comes back right and straight and the tunnel doesn’t just stop in the immediate area. It widens a little bit in the middle, but then there’s a full tunnel going into the green as well um. So a very challenging woods hole here. This is new england, disc. Golf and it takes what i’m gon na throw is a anhyzer on a somewhat flippy disk, try and get it going right.
The whole way until it runs out of speed and hope hope it just finishes right in that small fairway, oh branches, everywhere no found some danger. I i put a decent angle on it: uh maybe a little bit too much anhyzer, but i clipped one of those branches down early um. I think i came down to the place where you have the ability to still maybe make a run at it, or you can kind of play. Smart, just put yourself in the fairway and and take your medicine. Take your four because this is one of those holes where it can get away with you if you try and play it uh too aggressively, so you can kind of see what i was talking about earlier here. It is very narrow. The t pad is right back here that tree in the middle makes you negotiate. What is a very small area above us? There are branches, so you have to play a low shot, that’s turning perfectly, but not too much to go in the forest on the right, and then there is a ton of vegetation if you go far and left that’s. If you manage to get through there at all, and then you can kind of see, as you turn there’s another gap here, that, if you’re really going to pure this thing, it’s got to turn perfectly and then start coming back right through there i mean it is A very challenging shot if you bail out far enough left, you might have a look but you’re still in danger, because there’s trees that line the fairway that protect the grain so it’s one of those holes where you hope you do well, even a perfect shot.
Might just get kicked somewhere and and you’re scrambling most times on five, so i threw a forehand that got uh. I think most of the way there i i just played it along the safer side on the left. Uh i’ll give myself a look at a long. Three and that that’s really all i wanted uh being this far back. If i were to take a chance going up the fairway there’s a lot of trouble, i could get knocked down again and then you’re looking at double bogey, so we’ve come to the open part of the course. This is the sixth hole, it’s 508 foot par four. First bar four on the course, and you can see um it’s wide open to the right. You, the only mistake that you can really make here, that’s going to end up in a bogey is: if you go left side you hyzer out early. You end up in the junk on the left, but you can put anything out wide. I do like to kind of hug that left side, not too close, where it’s going to cut me off, but that’s going to be your shortest path to the green and as you get up closer, the green is is protected by some thinner trees. There’S, a clump of trees right in there that make it difficult to actually access the hole. You got to place, something that skips in or you need to hyzer perfectly through a small gap to access that hole.
But it is still a very gettable three and a chance to birdie here. I think that should be good that’s, a great job, all right so able to play the angle, get one into the green. Take a three there make up for that. Last bogey uh puts this back at even par seventh hole, 318 foot par three. You can see it’s a low ceiling downhill into another, elevated green that is protected, but not as much as some of the others here. So what you want to do is is throw something kind of on hyzer, maybe flip up, get that glide to then reach this green and the ideal shot kind of skips up into it. Um, when the grass is this long, you’re not going to get a lot of great ground play unless you hit it in the perfect spot, you can kind of go left side right at it. It’S, a smaller window, there it’s a more challenging shot, uh, whatever you feel more comfortable with, but reachable uh, but another challenging three here. So you might not have been able to see where that one came out, but i ended up right side. It flipped up on me and just kind of stayed straight didn’t hyzer back towards the green, so i’m obscured. I can see the basket through this tree, so i just got to kind of swing around it. I can’t really putt at it. Just um trying to get close and tap in here, so the eighth hole is one of two big, really fun downhill par fours.
This is a 704 foot par 4 that has a dramatic downhill off the tee, so a big bomber hole um from there. It is completely open. All you got to do is uh get your distance right. So uh you want to bite off as much distance as you can with the drive and give yourself ideally a putter, a mid range into the pin, but it is tricky from up here to tell what the wind is doing. Longer. Grass can give you a wind. Read but it can be a struggle, so you got ta, try and feel it out Music, so got it down, prefer to be on the left side rather than the right um, but really anywhere out there. As long as you get some distance, it gives you a good chance of birdie here, so it took us a minute to find this one. For obvious reasons: um the grass is getting up to your waist here. Um was a good drive. I’Ve got uh, probably about 250 left from here; tough run up and that’s gon na get the wind and go away overshot. It wow, ninth, hole 351 foot par 3, uh kind of a fun start to it. There’S a little creek here and you can see these four trees that make you choose left or right gap. You can either throw a big forehand. You can go straight, hyzer, right side and just have it glide in or you can throw a flex shot through.
That left gap a number of ways to get to this hole. The uh field out there is completely open much like the approach on the last hole. It’S just get your distance right once you get out there um, but a gettable par 3. Here just got to throw a good shot up there. Oh the wind picked that guy up hard. I wonder if that killed the speed, all right, so starting the back nine. The tenth hole is another bomber hole, it’s, a 555 foot par 4 uh big, open field that again condenses into a small opening into the forest there’s a narrow gap. You can go over it and try and get something anhyzered into there or a forehand in. If you get up far enough really it’s another hole where you’ve got to bite off as much distance from the box as you can to give yourself a chance at three, but certainly another getable birdie here right all right, so i ended up a good ways up The hill definitely uh approachable to the green. The gap is so narrow because the trees are kind of growing into it. Um. What i like to do is throw an anhyzer over the left side and have it turning right and finish back softly near the hole. It is a difficult shot if i had a better power, forehand that’s, another good option here, because it’s naturally on one angle going straight at it so we’ll see.
If i can get this up and over so i hit my line um but i’m, a little too close for a firebird too much juice on that one. It’S gon na be 30 40 feet coming back down the hill, not unhappy with it. Still a look um but let’s see what would have happened had i thrown this forehand, which might have been the better play based on how far up the hill, i am nope. Overcooked, oh bad, too. Well we made the right decision all right, so actually quite a bit better than my initial assessment. It was only five feet away, so tapping birdie on 10. Is i love that this is a great hole to get um it’s. Just such a challenging green phil good way to start the back down to three under feeling really good about this round, all right, so the 11th hole is a 315 foot par 3. That is downhill all the way, but it is heavily wooded there’s, not much of a fairway here, there’s a tree right in the middle that you’ve got to avoid early. If you can turn it perfectly, there is a small gap through a clump of trees in the middle, and then the green is protected by another round of trees. So this one is kind of a pitch and prey you’re, just throwing it out there i mean i go right side gap highs are basically the whole way there is that left side where, if you flip something up and throw it straight at it, maybe better odds, But you’ve got to have that shot and be very comfortable with it found the second set.
Music barely got it. Okay, a good save one that can really trip you up and ruin a good round happy to come away with three after getting something caught up in the middle, all right, 12th hole, 383 foot par 3. It is uphill finishes right. Another well protected green in the forest here uh. What the ideal shot is to throw one up the right side of the fairway i’m gon na throw something slightly understable. I want it to flip up kind of glide straight for a while, as it loses speed finish hard left. This is kind of a bonus. Birdie you’ve got a really crushed one up the hill to get it close and we’re going to try and do just that. So i played right into the teeth of the hole i went into that clump of trees right in the middle got through the initial part of it. A couple tree kicks sent me down right in the middle of it, but a great place to be should be an easy three uh from where i am i’ve gotten past, most of the hard stuff, so we’re, nearly all the way up the hill uh, as you Can see a ring of trees, protect this hole? Um i’m, probably not gon na give this much of a bid a little too risky to hit one of these outside trees and roll back down the hill just want to get it up. Put it right under the basket just like that the 13th hole is a tunnel par 3.
It is 288 feet uh. This one gives me fits. You can see there’s a tree right in the middle uh and there’s a big tree just off to the left of the fairway you’ve got to kind of stripe this one i throw something faster which isn’t necessary to get there. This is a little bit of an easier stretch on the course, but you kind of emphasize here there really aren’t any gimmies on this course. I mean every part. 3 is bogeyable, so you really just want to stay in this fairway somewhere got knocked down in the middle um. Still definitely gon na give it a good bid here, got a straight shot at it, which, if you’re off the fairway there’s, always gon na, be something in your way so happy with that. Maybe just inside circle, two here off the front cage that’ll happen: the 14th hole one of the shortest holes on this course at 191. Feet is a part three that still has its challenges. Um. There is a lot of traffic straight at it uh. It is on the side of a hill with a wall, so ideally the play is to either crash into that wall and then have uh uphill putt or get over it and hit that hill. The issue is there’s, not a lot of direct routes to get there. There is a tiny gap on the right side that i feel like is one of the better plays if you’re going to get this too or you can just kind of go straight at it and take your chances but there’s a low ceiling, there’s a lot of Trees, um not much of a fairway, so you can also throw a flex.
That is how i got my first ace on this hole with a firebird uh, you kind of flex out and back but there’s, just not a lot of room for it in the summer. Oh just short, there made it through the small gap here’s the other play. If i can get around the early branches just out in the middle, not a terrible place to be we’re at the 15th hole, probably the second hardest wall on the course behind the fifth um. It is a 482 foot par 3. It is a dog leg right. The biggest mistake that you can make is missing right side, uh, trying to bite off some extra distance. It is a mess in that forest uh, sometimes you’re, just lucky to get your disc back. If you go in there, what you want to do is play it out wide left. If you’ve got a mat like a huge forehand, you can mash one out there really nobody’s, making two on this hole unless they’re throwing it in. So you want to play it out wide into the field, a difficult three here just trying to play it smart, Music, too low, so the drive was too low, got caught up in the very thick grass here so i’m, a long way from the hole. What i’m going to do is try and play a force over that’s, just gon na go right. The whole way around this tree play the angle and hope i can get into the green um i’m staring down a four here, unless i can really execute a difficult shot.
Music. All right, final, three holes here sixteenth, is 325 feet par three. This one um starts a stretch of gettable holes coming in it’s, just a wide tunnel low ceiling i like to throw a little bit of a flex, try and get some good distance on it and try and get it right under this basket: Music. Horrible, all right! 17, full 291 foot par 3.. It plays a little bit farther in my mind. Um you’ve got to avoid this tiny tree, that’s right in the middle of the fairway. What i like to do is flex something get it going right to left into a narrow gap. The gap gets smaller and smaller towards the green uh as the trees fill in during the summer. So another reachable par three here that can be a birdie, looks to be a little short uh, but definitely the right shot shape, got it right through that gap should have somewhat of a look if it’s not obstructed by the tree that protects the hole all right. Limped one in but straddling is maybe not my strong suit um my girl’s gone wild dvd, always here for me, made it to the 18th hole uh one of the signature holes here, keaney it’s, a really fun downhill, bomber 831 feet par 4. Big downhill leaves you with a big second shot as well. Ideally, you miss the big bush in the middle that’s. One of the biggest mistakes that you can make on this hole is going straight into that um.
If you land somewhere left center down near that knob, that’s kind of the ideal landing zone and then you’ll have maybe 150 200 into a slightly uphill green. That flattens out so a getable four here to end just trying to get as much distance off the tee. Again, as you can, i fluffed one i’m wide left but i’m straight at the hole, still a chance with a crush to save a three here, but it is a par four, so not in too much danger. That was horrible Music. That concludes our rounds here at guinea park, one of my favorite courses, my own course here in central connecticut. I love it just because it’s such a mix of different challenges, you have long wooded hole short wooded holes, big open holes, nothing easy here, but some drawbacks. If you’re coming here in the middle of the summer, the grass does get very long um easy to lose a disc you might want to wear pants. My legs are super itchy um, but overall it’s a fantastic course. It plays pro level for a lot of these holes and i’ve played it probably 100 times and every time it’s a new challenge. So i definitely recommend coming out here. We are only about 15 minutes from wickham park in center springs um.
