Tomzon D30 5G WIFI GPS Drone Review
I want you guys know that you know in about a week we close in our new house so i’m hoping that today will be sort of the last of the make shift. Drone reviews – at least i may get a car review in here before we move in a new house, but this should be one of the last times that i’ll do this review, where everything’s kind of done outdoors and you know i’m, going to set up a studio At the new house and i’m going to um just try to review everything more like i used to, but even better so it’s going to be even a more improved channel and that’ll be coming up in a few weeks. Ovviamente, i’ll be a few week pause in here, where i probably won’t have any videos on the channel because i’m moving in the new house i get things set up. So unfortunately there’ll probably be nothing on the channel here. The next few uh two or three weeks side aside, maybe a car review or something that i got coming in in the next few days. I just want to update you guys real quick on that all right to move along now to the review today today, i’m going to take a look at the toms on d30. This is a 5g wi fi uh brushed motor gps drone. That also has optical flow. The camera on the front is rated at 2k. I don’t know exactly it will be that sometimes they get to spec wrong.
It is motorized on the tilt, so you can tilt it up and down 90 degrees and it seemed to be a rather smooth tilt. When i tested it in the house, let’s take a look at the drone. It is foldable as well like so many of these are so you can see it folds up nicely and you just unfold these arms and get the props kind of get in the way. As you’re unfolding everything out, ma qui è – and you can see here – is the uh motorized uh camera. It is dampened which i like that may and may it should help reduce jello as it absorbs any vibrations have to go through those dampeners here’s a little optical flow camera right here, and there is a tf card or sd card slot in the bottom of this. They rate it up to 64 Gigabyte, but mine does not seem to work and i’m really disappointed in that i have a 16 gig samsung card in here right now, and i also tried a 64 Concerto, originally uh. The app shows that when you insert it, the sd card icon lights up in the app and it sees it it just doesn’t create any folders. It does not uh work. I formatted both cards and i just get nothing on the sd card, so it’s possible that mine’s just effective, but i am gon na. Let um tanzan know about this, because that is not good.
If this would be some sort of an issue with all these. I just can’t say for certain that it is. I just nothing shows up on the card, so it broadcasts in 720p, over wi fi, so i’m going to record the video using the screen recording. So you guys can at least see what the onboard video looks like, but you should get a higher resolution and you won’t get dropped frames or anything if you use the sd card so that’s what we typically would do. I just wanted to cover that that’s. Perché? I got the sd card in to let you guys know but yeah it does. I don’t get anything on either one, so i know it’s, not my sd card since i’ve tried two of them now. The battery in this guy is a 2s. If i can get it out of here, you have to push these little buttons on the sides: the 2s 7.4 Volt 1200 milliamp. I think it’s rated around 17 18 minutes that’s going to be in ideal conditions. Your little on and off button here is right here. If you press it and hold it in it’ll light up, Vedi, we’ve got four green lights press and hold it in it turns it off. It charges off the provided us uh, my actually it’s usbc right here, which that’s a little bit it’s a newer. Usb connection of many new phones, android uses usbc and many new phones.
They do provide you with one of those so in case that’s a less common cable. So if you don’t have those make sure you don’t misplace the cable, so you can charge up this guy. Quindi, di nuovo, it’s brushed it’s got red leds here in the front. I think this i’ll show you when i turn on, i think that’s green in the back. You do have to calibrate the compass whenever you first start it up, and then you can go ahead and take off and fly so um yeah we’ll. Take it up here in just a moment: we’ll fly it around and just see how it flies, and how does that video look at least in the screen recording and how you know? Does it eliminate any jello and stuff? Let me show you guys the controller, you do get extra props in the boxes here and you get the cable and they give you one battery in this. They come in these boxes. Here here is the controller you have to attach the phone clip uh to it. They got this nice little sheet on here. That shows you all the controls, this right antenna does appear to be real, so i would put these up there’s a wire inside the right one. The left won’t really matter, but put them both up to help with the range and then here’s your controls. Naturalmente,, it’s altitude hold your pitch and your roll over here on the right, your throttle and yaw on the left, your on and off switch.
This is your one button of return to home here to fly back and land this, your gps altitude hold switch. Your follow me mode here. This is your encircle or circling mode, and this is your high low speed rates. This is your photo and your video and when i do press that the app does so the timer start and it starts recording you think, ma, come ho detto, i get nothing on the sd card. I don’t even get anything on the phone that could be because it’s seen an sd card, so it’s just trying to record the card it’s, not it’s possible. I take that card out that i might actually get video saved to my phone, and here is the little dial to um tilt the camera down and up and here’s a usbc port on the top. This lets you. Questo è un controller ricaricabile, so you don’t have to worry about double or aaa batteries with this guy you just plug it in until the lights all go solid and it’s, fully charged so yeah that covers all the stuff on this drone uh pretty uh typical. For what you would expect off of a amazon, uh brushed gps drone let’s just see how it does so i’m going to stop the video now i’ll get it out here in the front yard. I know it’s not ideal here again at the in laws to fly where i am so i’m not going to be able to test this drone out as thoroughly as i would like to.
But once i get to the new house, i’ll be able to go and do much better reviews again. So i appreciate you guys being patient with me. These last uh five to six months as we’ve uh had to go into temporary housing and it’s made the channel. I know suffered something i apologize so we’ll be right back guys, we’ll take the d30 up now for its test flight. Va bene ragazzi. I said the d30 down here. I got it connected to the 5g wi fi in my phone. You just go into your list. There on your settings and your wi fi you’re, going to look for it just says drone and has some numbers and letters after it connect to that. Then you want to go to the toms. U app i’ll put a screenshot of that app here up on the phone on the box. It says that, and it gives you a qr code when you scan that it takes you to a website and redirects you to the play, store and says download the potenzic gps, app potenzic does own timezone and that app might work. But i recommend you stick with what they recommend, because it just it says, d30 in the app so that’s the one you want to use the toms on uf. So now we need to do the compass calibration. It tells you to do it here on the app. So i’m going to go ahead and set down the controller and it will beep when it’s done you’re just going to do a level calibration until it beeps and now i think there’s the beep now we’re going to go nose up and there’s the second beep and We’Re good to go all right: okay and the half flip there.
It does road self, rotate and i’m going to skip the gps accuracy test. Sometimes these i have trouble getting this to go away. It’S not wanting to go away. I don’t know why it’s it does. This accuracy test and it’s supposed to help out and uh i’m having i’m just having trouble i’m clicking this it just doesn’t want to do anything there. We go now it’s gone away, è, weird about that. ok, so we’ll take it up now and we’ll fly it around and we’ll see how this guy does now i’m doing a screen recording so just going to be. You know it may be 1080p, but it’s really 720p get the neighbor’s cat here checking out the drone. Io, take it up here and we’ll fly it around. Take it out, we’ll do a return to home accuracy test and if we have enough battery i’ll try to test out some of those other features so let’s see here. I think we just do both sticks down and in and there we got the motors going and just give us some throttle to take off let’s see how it covers. È, not uncommon. These drones tend to kind of lose altitude when you first take off until they kind of settle in the barometers kind of gauging itself see it keeps dropping down some it’s really staying low let’s. Take it up higher here. It’S keeps wanting to come down in altitude. Di solito, you see now it’s settled in again these especially these brushed ones.
I see this quite a bit, they just they take off, and then they come back down at first, so just keep giving a throttle and it’ll. Infine, even out and – and you know, get its uh bearings so to speak. Ora, when i took off on the ground, i saw some jello. You know that’s, probably from prop wash let’s, see how it how it does here, that’s a pretty quick y’all Applause but i’m. Not seeing a whole lot of jello here, at least in the previous let’s hope that’s the case let’s go up to the high rate and see how does that affect the uh y’all? I can’t see any difference so it’s just going to be more pitch a little noisy at those brush motors let’s. Take it up here and turn it around at me here first and show you guys the camera tilt and then we’ll take it out here and we’ll uh we’ll do a return to home accuracy test yeah the camera tilt is pretty smooth. Di solito, you see more jerkiness with these uh just brushed motor um gimbals, per così dire, you could call them and they uh tilt and they kind of turkey jerky. This is pretty nice guys, ok, Let ' s, take it out here and we’ll just slide over a little ways. These these wi fi, even on 5g, you don’t, get real great range 5g, should give you a little better video quality and you get less interference but let’s.
Take it up higher here, see there’s a lot of wobble and that’s, just because there’s no stabilization so let’s make sure the camera’s all the way up. So we are out 200 and it says we’re at 250 meters i’m. Non sono sicuro. I believe that that seems awfully far it’s really booking along okay that’s out i’m gon na y’all, where the video looks like it’s kind of frozen up, di solito 200. I mean you don’t, get that great of on these drones, let’s press the return to home and see if it comes back and it’s beeping here, hopefully we’ll regain the it says home word on the uh here it comes hopefully, we’ll regain the video feed, if not We’Ll have to reestablish it. Ecco fatto. It came back in that’s good, so we did have a wi fi connection, it didn’t break it. It just didn’t have any good enough feed here. It is up overhead. A lot of these drones. They love to beat beat beep at you, while you’re coming back i’m gon na tilt the camera down. So you can can look down at us guys it’s gon na rotate the direction it was facing it take off let’s see how accurate it is here. It is right, above me, Sono, going to move over it’s coming down here, father in law’s, going to take off in the car here. So we need to get this landing, so we can get out of his way so yeah that worked pretty good and we got the video feedback yeah.
I don’t know if that telemetry is correct. That seemed awfully far. I don’t think i was out 300 meters right there. It didn’t seem like it let’s see if it’s gon na land. Here it comes down. Yeah that’s not too far off that’s about four feet: that’s well within margin of air, so yeah that worked just fine let’s. Take it over here and we’ll, get out of the father in law’s away he’s taken off now, Let ' s, take it back up and we’ll uh try some of the smart features. We’Ve got sixty percent battery, it says so let’s. Take it up here and we’ll see how how it works here, so let’s go ahead and unlock the props, and it looks. I don’t see any auto takeoff on this drone, so you just got to give it throttle yourself. You see it’s really settled down now that we’ve gotten it out and it’s got its bearings. So let’s uh let’s see how the at the follow me. I like that it has it on the controller, so you don’t have to mess with finding the app or anything like that. Let ' s, just press it and let’s see. Se mi segue, it looks like it’s it’s moved a little bit here: we’re not going to do a very good, follow me test, but yeah it’s. Definitely i just want to keep away from these trees let’s tilt the camera down. So they can see me here. There you go guys let’s see the following seems to be working quite well.
I don’t want to get any closer to those trees, but yeah it’s. It is definitely following me: Sono, going to uh press it again because we don’t want to fly into that tree. Sì. Seguimi: let’s let’s, try that again now that i’m, a little bit away from stuff let’s, see if it and again i’m pretty close and we’re in a very confined area, but yeah it’s it’s. The only thing i’m seeing here is it’s having trouble it’s not facing me i’m, going to press it again and cancel it the camera. It seems like it kind of turns on its side and then it uh let’s. Try it again here see it kind of turns on its side and again we’re in a very confined area, and i think that could be what’s causing the problem, but it definitely does work. Let me get out in front here and see us yeah that’s, moving forward. È, just it’s not always wanting to face me, just press that button again to cancel it. These follow me features you know on these budget, gps drones can be real hit and miss let’s. Try it one more time. ok, see it’s it’s turning sideways and that’s, where my only concern it does follow, but it’s not facing me it’s, finding the gps in your phone and that’s. What it’s supposed to follow? We’Re down to ‘ 38 it’s gon na do return to home soon let’s see if we have enough time here, as you guys can imagine we’re getting nowhere near that fight time, which is to be expected.
These drones never are accurate. Bene, almost never when it comes to the flight time. Let’S aim at the camera down well ice got me here and let’s. Do a circle me let’s see let’s back it up. Some let’s see if we have enough battery here to do a circle me it’s going to fly out and then it should start circling again. It looks like the drone’s going to let’s see there. It goes there. We go so it’s kind of marking that point and it’s going to circle. Ora, i’ve not looked in the app there’s. Probably some features in here we’re gon na look now um you’ve got your max height. I’Ve only got it set to 50. max flying distance was set to 300, as you guys saw. I went 300, the farthest it’ll. Let you go we’re well beyond that. So the telemetry data is certainly a little bit off on that um because it says you can only go up to 300. minimum return to height altitude. You know i’d set the 10 that seemed like that was higher than that so i’m, not sure if that stuff works super well in there. You’Ve got some other options here, .... You know for the app itself, but yeah there’s there’s some of your settings. I do not see a beginner’s mode, that’s good other times. These drones get capped on their distance, so i’m going to stop the uh we’re going to stop the uh circle me bring it down.
Yeah circle me work really. Well again, it just tinted. The drone tends to not face correctly now. Maybe some of that result would be in this confined area, but it worked pretty good, so yeah you can go through those settings in the app and uh. You know i was looking at them here: i’ll bring them back up again. You’Ve got your minimum return home altitude there’s, something about. It shows your firmware version in there, your max height, which again you can set it up to 250, but max distance line is set to max 300 and apps said i was out 350 o qualcosa del genere, and i don’t i was not out that far. I was probably out more like 100, 150 150 is usually about my limit. I get on these wi fi drones in the city. Uh you just get too much. Even on 5g, now same people, 5g routers that you tend to uh there’s interference on that range. Now too, but it’s a pretty stable and pretty smooth flyer, the camera seems decent, Naturalmente,, it’s unstabilized, but i’m, not seeing tons and jello and wobble and it’s pretty smooth tilt. The only real problems i have here, besides the smart features not facing towards me, is obviously the sd card not recording video. This is an amazon sold drone it’s very possible there’s, something wrong with mine. If you were to buy this and you didn’t get to work on the sd card, just be no problems getting that returned and get another one from amazon or your money back.
So just keep that in mind. It is possible it’s, just something in mind. I just can’t say one way or another, but yeah fly is good. The smart features work reasonably well. The circle me works really well. It flies nice and smooth for brushed motors, which is a little noisy because it’s geared these brushed motor drones are geared and all those gears moving makes more noise than even a brushless switcher. Just turning the prop directly yeah flies nice, and there is that i mentioned earlier that rear light is green. Then those front arms have the red lights to help with orientation, though a gps, drone’s orientation is not nearly as important as a manual flyer toy drone. You know so yeah we’re down to 23, so the battery’s lasting longer and i’ve not been pushing it here when you’re hovering like this, your battery is going to last a lot longer. Yeah flies nice. I would say you know if this drone, Io no, know the cost of this drone. I pretty sure it was over a hundred dollars, though um you know, you depend on what you can get it for. They’Re usually include coupons with these it just and also, Se sei, just willing to take that risk on the sd card, not working, come ho detto, it’s very possible it’s, just mine, but i can’t say for certain all right guys. I think that’s enough to show you guys it pretty much covered all the features so i’m gon na go ahead and land it i’ll just manually land it here all right, so we got it landed here and i said not a bad little drone got one light Left here still on the on the battery says 21 here and the uh in the app all right guys, so that wraps up the review of the toms on d30 brushed gps drone, the optical flow.
This has you know, that’s going to be for use whenever you have uh no gps signal indoors or if you lost your gps signal it’s something that’s hard to test. So i can’t test too well. Sometimes it’ll follow your hand, but when it’s got a gps signal, that’s going to want to override the optical flow, what we could do – and i don’t have enough battery to test it now – would be to turn off your gps. I didn’t test that and then, if you turn that off you can uh then fly an altitude hold mode and that’s when the optical flow should want to most likely kick in no it’s possible. That could disable the optical flow too. All right guys that wraps up the the uh review of the toms on d30 hope you guys enjoyed it again in about a week or so and moving in a new house. So there’s not going to be a whole lot of videos in the next few weeks. Outside of maybe a random car review or something but be sure to subscribe to the channel, so you can keep up to date on it. I’Ll be posting a lot of new videos after the new year and the new setup, the new house and be sure to click that bell.
