Is Building an FPV Drone BETTER Than Buying the DJI FPV Drone?
Oh okay! Pa, that makes more sense now all right, so it looks like in today’s video mike, and i are talking about whether or not you should build a quad verse by the dji fpv drone. This is a pretty hot topic right now, and a lot of people are really confused on what to do this costs 1200 and this well. This can cost many things, so i guess the next thing is: does mike have an intro to start this video, oh he’s, got an intro roll, the Music, all intro, so let’s talk about modularity because there’s a lot of highlighting features here to building your own quad. That comes in terms of modularity. For starters, when you pick up one of these and you start building it, it can become anything you want it to be, and i think that’s, probably the coolest thing about building your own fpv quad. For starters, this build that i have here it started out as just your typical apex frame, but then i designed and figured out what i wanted to put into this quad itself. Tako, for starters, i started out with some fpv cycle motors as my powertrain, and quite literally my favorite drone motor and, if i ever crashed or wrecked these, i can always pop in a second set of those or i can change those motors out to something entirely Different, you can also design any type of mount for any sort of action camera that you want, and you can hot swap those cameras at any given point which i think is pretty damn cool.
As far as the esc goes, you have your choice of what type of esc what type of flight controller you want to put in your quad, and if digital is not your cup of tea and you want to run analog, you can simply just change out your Vista for a vtx of your choice, the honestly the opportunities and possibilities are endless. Now let’s talk about camera possibilities, because here is where, po mom mišljenju, it gets really really interesting. As a cinematic pilot, i always appreciate the best quality possible and i’m always looking for ways to fly smoother to grade better and to just have better more eye pleasing videos for you guys, and for that i definitely think this one is the way to go and It’S not only because you have a gopro hero, 9 black compared to the built in camera it’s. Also because you have so many options, i have lined them up here. You have insta360 one r twin edition. You have the one inch edition you have gopro six. You have all sorts of different cameras that you can put on your quad and let’s just say if you want to quickly swap and use that same camera on another drone, so you can have same quality what, but with different flight style. You can do that, Međutim, if you only use the dji fpv drone, you will notice the problem it has with the shadows, na primjer, so when the dynamic range is a little bit higher, meaning that you need to have details both in the highlights and in the Shadows, you will see that the drone struggles with the shadows and they get crushed.
They are very, very black. They have no detail inside them whatsoever. So for that i am a little bit underwhelmed with the camera quality of the built in camera. Another thing which i want to talk about is the stabilization. The stabilization of this camera is not ideal. It only has a one axis gimbal to stabilize the footage and the built in stabilization works just like on the dji osmo action, na primjer, To je, not the best it’s. Radi. I would say it works, but it’s not the best and let’s. Not even talk about real steady because nothing beats real steady when it comes to stabilization, because it uses the gyro data of the camera to stabilize the footage, meaning that it makes it buttery smooth. Whereas this camera shows some some movement some you know some people say that it’s more realistic, myself included it’s, sometimes it’s. It seems a little bit more realistic. You know to having a little bit more vibration to have some some shakiness inside the footage. Međutim, if you’re only looking for the stable, smooth look of your video – and you really want it to look as as cool as possible and as smooth as possible, real steady is something that is hard to beat all right. So let’s talk about pricing, because pricing is a huge, huge thing when it comes to these two drones. Posebno, this is 1200 dolara, but keep in mind you’re, actually paying for your goggles in your rc when you buy this kit.
So if we look at just the drone itself, 750 to an average cost of 350 bucks now this build here was a little more on the high end, because the frame on this is a little more expensive. But you can go anywhere from 450 to a build. All the way down to let’s say almost 200 for a really solid build. Sada, when you start dipping into the digital realm, you’re, inherently gon na pay a lot more for building a quad versus building an analog quad. But again the ability to have that choice and pricing is really really nice. Esc’S and your typical flight controller stacks are going to run anywhere from about 75 dolara, all the way up to 120 dolara. Now i run kiss, and these builds cost me about 1′ for my stacks and yeah. Is it a little pricey? Da, but it is still well under the 500 mark in most of my builds, which is pretty awesome again, you have the option to go expensive, but you have the option to also go cheap and finally, another thing that makes this the better choice compared to the Dji fpv drone is the purpose you have so many different quadcopters built for different purposes. You have cinework, you have a tiny whoop. Imaš 5 inch cinematic rig. You can have a race drone. You can have a long range quadcopter. You have so many different ones that you can build and build them for a specific reason, and that gives you a lot of flexibility that gives you a lot of freedom to use different tools for different things with this quad.
If you only buy this drone, you you you can i guess you can make it fly as a race quad you can make it fly as a as a freestyle quad you can’t make it fly as a cinework. Međutim, it’s not meant to do that. It’S meant to be, po mom mišljenju, naravno, it’s meant to be a cinematic smooth, cruising quadcopter it’s not meant to race, To je, not meant to freestyle, To je, not meant to be thrown and do all sorts of split s’s, and inverted your spins. naravno, it can do it, but it’s not ideal for that. So the purpose of building your drone is to fit your exact needs. So before you purchase anything, you need to be aware. What are your specific needs? What do you want to do? What you want to achieve with your quadcopter and then figure out, which drone would give you that for me, i would. I wouldn’t use this in any possible scenario. I would use it in some scenarios and when it comes to flying slowly and precisely i have a cinema for that – i have a racing drone. If i want to really push it and not care about breaking it, and that is the freedom of choosing your own quads and choosing your own parts and choosing the purpose of your quadcopter. Tako, as you can see guys, there really is no right or wrong way to go. You just need to figure out what are your needs? What are your specific purposes of buying any of these quads and which one would be the better choice for you? nadam se, with this video and with the one that we posted on ken’s channel, will give you enough valuable information, so you can make that decision and stop wasting time and just get out there and fly and have fun.
This is everything that i have for you in today’s video. Thank you so much for watching. Thank you to ken for joining the channel.
