The flywheel firefly hexlano is available in two versions: i’ve got the bit of light version and a niner version which i’m going to test soon is available as well. The differences between the versions are that, first of all on the inner version, the flight controller comes pre flashed with inov and in order to support its return to home and other gps related capabilities. It comes with a gps and a barometer and compass module in terms of packaging inside the box, along with the hex nano you can find the user manual of the goku for 11 hex 13 ampere stack some spare empty screws and nuts. My version came with the crossfire nano receiver and the mini moto antenna is mounted on the top plate using a 3d printed tpu part. The wheelbase of the frame is 90 millimeters and the propellers are not going to appear in your fpv feed and hd footage. The thickness of the bottom unibody plate is 1.3 Milímetros, and the thickness of the top plate is one millimeter. Además, in order to reduce some weight, the motors are mounted only using two screws and the weight of the hex nano without a battery is 62.8 gramos. Now let’s quickly go over the different with the flight settings. In case you have one of the binofly versions. The already receiver is connected to ult1. Under the configuration tab, you can see the proper way for assembling the propellers. The ac slash motor protocol is set to disshot 300. The maximum arm angle is set to 180 grados, so you can arm the hexacopter, regardless of its orientation under the pid tuning tab. You can see the custom, pid red profile and field settings which are included down below since it’s, not very easy to tune this micro hexacopter. I recommend to avoid touching these values unless you really know what you’re doing and regardless they seem to be working great here. You can see the vtic settings which are also included down below, and i recommend to set the low part disarm option to on until first arm in order to reduce the chances of the vtx overheating.
The next thing that you need to do is to make sure that all the sticks and switches of your radio controller are working properly after binding it with the ready receiver, then configure your favorite flight modes and osd elements and you’re going to be good to go. The next thing that i’ve done is to head outdoors and test the fly with firefly hex, nano and overall after testing it out. I can tell you that, en mi opinión, it’s a nice little ripper and the two extra motors really separates it from other traditional 40 mm quadcopters, both in terms of performance and efficiency. Using the 520 milliampere forest led battery, which is the one that i recommend to use with this setup, you can expect between two and a half to six minutes of flight time, depending on how you fly using this battery, while carrying the smo 4k camera using this 3D printed tpu mount, which is by the way available separately from flywheel. I got about three and a half minutes of flight time, while cruising around with some punches, which is more than i expected to get, and i was also surprised to find out that using a 3s 450 milliampere lipo battery the performance was pretty good and using this Battery you can expect between two to four minutes of flight time again, depending on how you fly as for its downsides. En primer lugar, Estoy, not a big fan of this type of magic battery, velcro straps, as in my experience, even though they are lighter than traditional ones that are using a plastic or metal buckle.
They simply do not secure the battery properly. So i would recommend to either use a better battery, Velcro, strap or use a 3d printed tpu part in order to mount the battery on the bottom plate. The second issue is that, en mi experiencia, these propellers break easily and that’s. Por qué, Por aquí, you can see a combination of jam, fan and hq prop propellers and i’m, not saying that the japan propellers are more durable. I just ran out of the hq props, so i had to use them as well. You should note that you should be careful when trying to flip over the hexacopter using turtle mode, because in case one of the propellers is going to be blocked. It is most likely to be damaged. Flywh are currently testing a propeller guard which is going to be included with all the orders that are going to be placed until the 5th of may hopefully it’s going to make things better. But regardless i recommend to get at least a couple of extra sets of propellers. The last issue that i’m concerned about is the durability of the button plate. I had some light pressures and i did okay, but on a hard trash it is extremely likely to break and since it’s a unibody button plate in case one arm breaks the whole bottom plate needs to be replaced. So i recommend that in case you are going to purchase the hex nano. You should get an extra bottom plate.
As for the big question, should you buy it or not? En mi opinión, even though it does fly great, this is the type of product that you purchase, based on its uniqueness and your willingness to try something new and not necessarily based on rational arguments. So in case, you would like to try a fun little micro hexacopter and you can afford it. You should definitely check it out. Además, en mi opinión, it’s great to see some innovative products out there – and i hope that flywheel are going to expand this line and come out with the bigger 2.5 inch model, which is probably going to be more durable and will also be able to easily Carry the cardex vista digital transmission system now i’m going to wrap up this video with some flight footage.
