Today’S review is all about the sonic model, eachine ar wing special edition. The pro version we also have everything set up to go here with dji hd on here, and the special thing about this particular wing it’s, quite a bit larger than the original ar wing that i flew. Maybe three four years ago it seems like on the channel now they’ve kind of joined up with eachine here to bring us this wing and they have two bass on both sides of this wing for dji fpv setup. So quite a few bells and whistles on here you have extra bays on the end of each wing tip here for adding in a vtx out on the end, if you’re running 5.8 or hd either way you go, it has two different top plates as well. You can put your hd right in the middle right there, your vtx for dji or you can put it on the side, so two trapdoors on each side, one there and one over here. On the other side, sorry, my camera works not super good. Today, but uh gps, all the bells and whistles. It does come with a stabilized flight controller, and today, i’m gon na fly a full manual. We’Re, not gon na. Do any stabilization, we’re gon na fly old school with elevons on there? Elevons are all set up in the radio and ready to go, and i just need to do a test flight, real, quick and then uh we’ll do some dji fpv.
Hopefully it stays in one piece today: i’m flying a 4s 5000 pack in this wing, so fingers crossed guys uh, big heavy pack we’re going to see how it does with this power system. We do have a pretty good power system on here and i have the pnp version. It’S 40 amp esc’s on here it’s got a 3 amp bec and it also has 22 16 1400 kv motors. So that should give you a nice long flight time with a 5 000 i’m, probably going to get 20 minutes plus, and it also has metal gear 9 gram servos, and it has an 8×5 prop in the back. So they only give me one prop in this box, which kind of sucks i wish they give us a couple more props, but pretty cool looking wing has flipped up tips on the end or a little more stability. Hopefully it doesn’t have a lot of wobble but i’m going to show you straight up. Dvr footage from this wing and we’ll see how well it does here. We go Music, so Music, so Music do Music, so Music, so Music, all right guys! Welcome back from the flight test, so let’s talk about the ar wing pro special edition. Mine came to me with the plug and play version. It looks like there’s three different versions. There is the kit version, the pnp and the pnp, plus the nx3, and the nx3 is simply just an onboard gyro and it comes with cables, and it comes with everything you need here to hook up your elevons and those will be.
The servo leads coming off of the wing here. It has two electronic ports right here that snap in so it’s kind of cool, because the servo wire goes from here and then you get an extra wire that comes out for any additional like vtx. If you wanted to put something else out here underneath the wing, there is a box that releases here unless you put something else here, there’s also the same thing on the other side and another port right there. So if you look, i have these cables kind of tucked in back here, and this is the servo leads right here that can come in to control extra things so or power extra things. If you want to power them straight off this nx3, you can do that which is pretty cool. So you have a couple extra options here for adding some. You know additional things to your wing, which is nice, because most of us have pbwing guys. We want to add all kinds of stuff on the wing and when you’re, adding gps and things like that, it’s. A good idea to just put the gps out on the wing somewhere away from on the opposite side of wherever your video system is just to get it away from the interference there and, in my opinion, honestly. They have the gps right over top of where the esc would sit right here, you can see there’s a gps, hatch right there. You just take that off and put your gps in there and run your wire out through the bottom here, but um.
I would probably put the gps somewhere like out on this, went this side of the wing out here and just run a wire across, because even though you can take the wings on and off, i probably i’m just going to leave mine set up like this. It does have these two bolts on the bottom that go through the wing on each side. There just give it some extra reinforcement and then also it has, i think, there’s also two extra spots that fasten down. I believe when i was putting the wing together. That was part of that, but you also get two different types of tops for this with magnets already installed, which is kind of cool, so this one has nothing on top and just a little venting there for the airflow to go through, because you absolutely want to Have all this cooled out? I even actually cut off a piece back here to allow my antennas to come out and then just put a piece of tape over top of it to make sure it didn’t come up. This needs a lot of ventilation in here, especially if you’re running, like 700 milliwatt on your full size air unit. So it will accommodate full size, air unit and there’s plenty of space here to run the camera here. So there’s a little special little tunnel through there and i just cut a line instead of taking it off kind of a pain in the butt to take those on off.
Because you have to take this all apart and pull that cable out of there. So, rather than do that, i just ran a razor blade through there and just stuff the cable down in there, and that was good. But i’ll tell you the cg on this guys, the cg. It has cg points on the bottom right about an inch and a half behind the leading edge right here. But i’ll tell you what you can put your fingers on that and balance it out, but it took a lot of forward weight to get this wing to correctly balance if it’s falling back too much it’s tail heavy and then it’s going to be a bad first Flight for you so make sure it’s totally balanced on your fingers when you hold one finger here on this side and this side you’ll feel the divots underneath here, if it’s not perfectly balanced out with all your weight, i mean i even put this extra dummy gopro Up here with some weights in there, this is from my vtol. I i i even with a 5000 way up front here. It was still just almost tail heavy. I mean so that’s kind of crazy, so it does need some pretty heavy battery. In there i tried a 3000 and the 3000 seemed really not to give it enough forward weight to get the cg to balance out correctly, so i’ve flown the other ar wings and the ar wing pro.
And i don’t remember the balance being that much of an issue but i’ll tell you if you want the longest flight time forget about the 4s 5000 pack run something like the 4s 2p 18650 7000 pack. This is from zod, and this with this motor. This 1400 kv motor this power combo right here. It should get you like, 45 minutes flight time um. The 7000 pack will actually fit perfectly up front here, and this should get your cg weight right with your gopro up front. So that’s a that’s, a pretty big battery, so this is one of my larger, fixed wing style, long range batteries and i can use this on much larger planes, but man, 7000, milliamp that’ll that’ll. Get you a lot of run time and it’s not going to be a race wing it’s not going to be as fast as it will have more power with the lipo. This is more of a cruiser battery. So if you want a long flight time use the 7000 pack 4s 7000. This is what’s up right here for long range flights, you’re going to add crossfire gps and all the bells and whistles on there that’s the battery pack. You want to use, but unfortunately, you know a little 3s 3000 just didn’t have enough weight to give it enough forward weight to be able to to fly correctly. I probably could have launched it tail heavy, but never want to fly any fixed wing like tail heavy but it’s cool that they include an nx3 on here now and um.
This is a newer flight controller here and super simple. It doesn’t even have like any kind of a um a way to hook up a usb cable to it. It doesn’t run inav or anything like that. So this is pretty much a plug and play solution similar to like the zod co pilot, the co pilot light, but this little guy doesn’t have doesn’t seem to have an option for gps on here. So just stabilized mode, so it looks like it would be able to be put up set up on a switch and then you can turn stabilize mode on and off. But you also get a little screwdriver here for going into this port right here, and this is the the pot for adjusting the sensitivity. So you have aileron elevator and rudder there and each of those little dials right. There are adjustable with the screwdriver. That way, you can change the sensitivity of the gyro on board here, so in three different settings: there delta v, tail and aileron two so in in our case we’re we’re flying a delta wing here so that’s what you would select for this particular aircraft. It looks like it has an on switch there, one two three and i never used this. I just flew it straight manual today, for you guys i just hooked up my spectrum, radio and an old spectrum receiver, one that actually works, one that didn’t crash me this time i felt like it was fail safing at one point when i was flying because it Got stuck, it seemed like on one side and it was kind of going in, but luckily i regained signal and had no problem but spectrum a lot of times.
This spectrum fail. Safes spectrum will kill the motor and a lot of i mean i’ve had one of these way down the beach and it failed safety and it just went in smooth as glass on the sand. Luckily i wasn’t super high up in the air but yeah, i always say don’t fly out further than you want to walk to pick it up right. So i think it’s cool that you can get all this for around 150. It comes in this box. Everything that you need to get it going with the exception of a receiver, so you have to add a receiver. You can hook up an sbus receiver to the nx3 as well. So if you want to set up like an xm plus or something like that, the xm plus will go out there about a mile. But if you’re going to be doing any range flying especially with lion hook, some gbs up to and you’ll have a a really fantastic time with this fpv wing, so it’s kind of cool to see one that’s specific for the dji setup and i didn’t use a Vista that would be a little bit lighter, but for this size wing it really doesn’t matter, you can get a full size, air module and these air modules are getting harder to find, because this has a built in dvr with micro sd card support, which is cool 1080P videos straight from that unit right there, but what you saw today was just straight up video as usual, to show you what it would feel like flying this guy in fpv again above 50, throttle 75 throttle really smooths out a lot of this, and i was Flying a lot slower today because i had a park flyer receiver on there.
This is a short range receiver, so once i got up on the throttle, i really couldn’t go that far because man i was running out of field space, so you’ll need a big feel for this, but the good news is on the flip side. Of that i was able to come down to about 30 throttle and just cruise low to the grass to that hay, like you guys, saw me doing, get down nice and low and then come in for a really soft landing right to my feet, so it it Can be dialed down and you can put more expo on your radio and travel limit. They i believe they they set about 12 millimeters of throw top and bottom here. So you don’t want full throw on your elevons. You don’t want full throw because a lot of times when you do full throw on your first launch, if you’re brand new to wings you’re flying full, throw you’re, probably gon na, throw your your wing into the ground nose. First i’ve seen so many people wing over into the ground because they’re not ready for it when they launch putting expo and travel limit in there. You only need so much tilt out of your surface here. You really don’t need a lot to make. This wing turn really fast, so be careful in your setup. Watch the videos out there on on setting up a wing and give a fpv wing a try.
This is a great way to do it, because this wing has a lot of options and it’s like it’s. Pretty durable it’s going to be super super durable, it’s um. I believe it was the epp phone and 40 amp esc is going to be good for you, guys too capable 4s all day, which is awesome. Epp yep epp, foam ‘ inch wingspan it’s, a rock and roll wing for a decent price 150 bucks.
