Today i just arrived. This is the drc, i think, that’s, how you pronounce it uh. It says de22 on it, but this is actually the de 22 pro it has a 4k camera, which means it. This will actually record 4k video and photo, and it has a two axis stabilized gimbal. Now this is another folding drone um. I have a few of them, but this is actually my first drone ever that has a gimbal of any type, so um i’ll go and turn on the slide here. So this here, it’s 4k at 3840 by 2160p. It has five gigahertz transmission, uh gps. So it has a one key return to home and it has a supposed to have a 1 500 meter flight range. Um we’ll probably figure that one out here in a later video i just want to get through the unboxing and just a regular test flight showing all the features. So and then, if you look here, we got it’s foldable as gps return to home. It has waypoint flights active track, which means it’ll uh. You basically select your there uh a rectangle around your body or your head or whatever, and it will follow you um when you move side to side or around it. If this is anything like the sjrc uh, which is almost the same, that came out late last year, this will not follow you with the active track. However, it does have a fault regular.
Follow me mode. Let’S see this also has hand gestures, which i’m not sure. What that is, uh that’s new for me and then 25 minutes flight time per battery. Now the sjrc brand, they uh they only ship with one battery. This one here is supposed to ship with two, so i’ll open the box here up and we’ll see exactly uh. What we get here now i’ve already kind of untaped there, so we’ll pull it out of the box inside. We got this plastic bag and put the box to the side. Now this is a ziploc bag, so let’s unzip it here and uh. It looks like we’ve got a nice nice case here, it’s just a handheld case and uh. This has the dr derc logo on it and a double zipper and it looks like the handle fix that there will go flat, lift up the hold yeah. This is a nice case um, so we’ll go ahead and open her up now, all right so inside right off the bat we got a piece of foam i’ll just put this in the box here temporarily and as you see, we have the drone itself, the remote And then uh here’s, one of the batteries and one of the the second battery is already installed on the drone, so it does come with two batteries now it is a little windy out here so i’m trying to keep keep the boxes and packaging from blowing around.
Here so in the zippered compartment we have the instructions. Uh let’s see what else we got. The usb charging cable is in this package and then in this little box here we have some extra blades and, if i’m correct it should, it might have a little uh. Screwdriver in here we’ll check it out. Okay, so we got looks like oh okay, there’s, another usb cable in here, because the battery takes a cable to charge it and also the remote has a rechargeable battery in it. Also so there’s two of those so double chargers. That’S good that’s, one thing i was worried about so we have blades in here and it does not feel like it has a screwdriver in it like my uh holy stone drones, but that’s all right. You know you can get a cheap set of precision screwdrivers at harbor freight walmart wherever so go ahead and put that in there for now and set those aside now, uh we’ll go and start with the drone here so here’s the drone it’s a folding quadcopter, and I will start by taking these uh cardboard pieces off here. First, just kind of tear them carefully and pull them through and set them to the side. They might actually just fold off here but i’m, not sure i’ll fold that okay, so they got kind of split here. I guess i could have done that huh all right so and then uh got some plastic here on top of the drone itself covering the battery.
So let’s peel that off and then uh on the bottom here we’ll get we’ll get to the gimbal later, but it’s got a protection protective cover and this uh sticky tab on it. So um, i guess when we fold the bot or actually no looks like we fold the tops out. First then, the bottom arms. So there we go here now this here it has a modular battery on the top, so you grab the buttons on either side here. Squeeze them in pulls right off and then on the side. Here, you’ve got your micro usb charging, port and it’s on both batteries, and then it has a built in battery level indicator. This is your power button for the drone and you just basically set it in there and snaps right into place all right now, okay, so this has a sd card slot on the bottom i’m, going to be using a sandisk, uh extreme pro 64 gigabyte card. Now you want to make sure that your card has a u3 rating on it, because if you don’t then you’re going to end up with frame skips, especially since this records in 4k video so make sure you have a u3 rating on your sd card. Now, on the bottom here uh, it is supposed to have optical flow sensor and i’m, not sure because i’m, not seeing anything in this general area right here so um. These are supposed to be. I think for air pressure, so um i’m gon na have to figure that one out here so optical flow is supposed to be here so uh let’s see we do have the the gimbal two axis gimbal.
So to get that off from the factory you cover off. You take this tab, just go ahead and peel it straight off, because you won’t need this lit this uh table later. Then you have this nice cover, so when you’re transporting it, your gimbal doesn’t start flopping around and stuff. So, as you can see, the gimbal is two axis, so if your drone is rocking side to side – or you know back and forth, it’ll always keep steady and the camera also includes image or enhanced image stabilization so with the gimbal plus that i’m hoping to get Some really smooth video um. I know it won’t be compared to the dji’s but uh. It should be steadier than the hs holy stone, hs 720e, which only has image stabilization. It does not have a gimbal, so um got a little tab here. Pull this off the lens now, if you can see in there it’s kind of a small opening in the camera there, which uh this this kind of camera here basically gets rid of that fisheye effect so um, unlike some of your regular cameras that have image enhanced Image stabilization this one here, you know won’t give you that fisheye effect so um. Now this also has lights on it. So, on the front you got your your lights are in the front here and then on the back side, they’re on the bottom of each one. All right, what else can i say about this uh? The batteries are supposed to have 26 minute life on them, we’ll see if that’s comparable.
I know the sjrc is about you know between 20 and 25. So we’ll go and set this to the side here and then we’ll go to the remote. Now this remote is kind of different from any other remote i’ve ever used before. So you got your antennas up here now these antennas there is uh. These are both fake. So your actual antenna runs crossways inside here, so these here you don’t even have to have these up. You can just fold them down. Just like that and be fine um. Your phone holder lifts up just like this, and then this here it does extend quite a bit here. Uh we’ll go ahead and get rid of the plastic here like that and oops. I turned the power on let’s turn that back off again for a minute. Okay turn it back off we’ll get to that in a while. Now this does extend up quite a bit and i will show you uh now i do have a samsung galaxy note, 20, ultra 5g and with a case on it and uh we’ll put this in there and see it. It stretches far enough to fit. My big note, 20, so that’s a good thing. Take these little foam pieces off here. These foam here kind of remind me of the holy stone. Hs270 it’s got the same foam protectors on it and then we’ll peel off this okay that’s, pretty sharp looking it’s got the fold down our handles here now.
When i saw this, i was wondering if the handles would actually hold a tablet holder, but these are kind of wide and they’re not really spring loaded, so i don’t think it will. I may try to do a modification on this at another time. So so, if you look at the remote here, you don’t have a lcd display, like you do with a lot of other drones. This is a backlit display, it’s, actually like a clear plastic with leds like a led backlight behind each function. So you have your left. Joystick, which is your altitude and your uh? Basically your not your panning, but your uh you’re turning side to side your rotation, so ascend descend turn to the left. Turn to the right. This one over here would be your move forward, move back, pan, uh to or drift to the side, the left or pan to the left pan to the right. There’S your automatic stop button this one here you want to kind of watch out for if you hold it in and your drone is flying, it will fall out of the sky. So don’t use that here’s your power. You do a single press for turning on the power hold it down for turning it off now. This one here is for setting your speeds, so on here i don’t know. If you can see it we’re going to turn this on it’s really hard to see in the daylight, you can price yeah, you can see it pretty well, but you have three speed modes, which is great, because a lot of the holy stone models only have two.
You only have your sport mode in your tripod mode. This has your camera mode, which is kind of like your tripod mode. When you want to take smooth, slow video, your normal mode and then your sport mode, when you want to race it around the yard or something here’s, your indicators for when you’re, taking a photo when you’re taking video when return to home mode, is activated uh and I’M guessing this one here is lit when you have control uh connection from the drone to the controller. Now up here at the top, you got your now up here. You got your wi fi signal your uh battery power for your remote, your camera like when okay, so you got a uh two switches on the back here. This is for your angle, of your gimbal camera to raise it up and down this one’s for zooming in and out now i have to test this one because on the sgrc this one here only zooms in and out on the phone itself, it does not zoom In or out showing on the video that you’re recording so um, but at the top here you got your snapshot for your camera, dedicated button for that dedicated button for turning on and off video uh. Let here is gps mode, so uh let’s see here how to figure that one out here in the instructions here but there’s a there’s, a button here for turning the gps on and off uh.
Of course, you probably want to keep it on all the time that way you don’t lose your drone in a fly away. So in the bottom here you got a micro, sd port for recharging, the rechargeable battery inside of it so that’s about all. There is to the remote all right well, we’re out here at the soccer fields, slash football fields uh over by roy roberts park here in beardstown illinois, where we got all kinds of room for me to show you some of the features of the uh drone. Here itself and as you can see, i got the drone all set up and the remote i just got ta put my phone in there and always before you fly make sure you take that protective cover off your gimbal. If you have it on there, so uh. First thing: we’re gon na do is uh we’re, going to start the remote and the drone and we’re going to pair them and then do the calibration all right. Well, first thing: we’re going to do is we’re going to set our drone out here and uh go and start the remote here actually we’re going to turn the drone on itself so uh. What you’re going to do is push this power button. All four lights are solid and uh there’s that familiar familiar sound that you hear with the other drones so uh. Next, what we’re gon na do is we’re going to push the power button and uh should pair with the drone uh next thing.
We’Re going to do is uh we’re, going to go up into the center to calibrate the compass so up into the center, and as you can see, all the lights are flashing on it. So we’re gon na hold it like this spin it three times and then, as you can see, the rear lights are now solid and the front ones are flashing. So now what you’re going to do is you’re going to hold it upside down with the camera facing down and you’re going to turn it three times vertically, like that, now you have the rear lights solid and the front lights solid, which means that the compass is Calibrated now you’re going to take the joysticks and you’re going to go up and out which is going to calibrate the gyro and then, as you can see now. Okay, our lights are flashing. We are now getting uh gps satellites. So as soon as these lights turn solid, then we will have full gps satellites all right now, if you look at it, you see the solid white lights in the front and they got the solid blue in the back. So we have our gps lock now to to arm the motors first. What we’re going to do is we’re going to turn on my phone and we’re going to go into our settings, connections, wi, fi and turn on the wi fi, and then we got d, rc fpv and then of course, this last number is going to be individual To your drone, so click on that it connects and then it’ll say, connected without internet, which is what it’s supposed to do: okay connected without internet, and then you just keep wi fi connection close out of our settings.
Now on your drone, apps you’re, going to download the degps app on the bottom there now in the instruction manual, there is a qr code. You can scan to download it because it is kind of hard to search for in your google play app store. I really can’t tell you for the apple store, because i do not have a iphone so we’re going to click on that now for the rest of this i’m, going to switch over to screen, recording, plus the gopro, all right, so we’re going to do some screen. Recording plus the gopro here to show you the different functions so uh to arm the motors you’re gon na push down and uh to the inward, so yeah down and inward. So, okay, so the end. The motors are turning right now, so this has uh. On the controller, it does not have an automatic take off, but it does on the app so for now, we’re just going to concentrate on the controller, so we’re just going to push up we’re gon na bring it over here and uh we’re gon na see how Well, it hovers and it is hovering really good. It is holding in one place, and that is awesome, so it does have gps and optical optical flow, even though it doesn’t have a standard looking optical flow sensor, so so on the remote you know we got raise it up. Altitude descend left and right on the left, remote spins, the camera or spins the drone around and then on the right remote.
You got forward back and then your drift side to side now i’m going to bring it towards me i’m, going to put it into camera mode, so it it’s a slower, so i’m going to bring it towards the camera here without crashing it into me. It’S wanting to hold out out there so okay so on the left or the right dial, is for your gimbal camera up and down. So now we’re looking down now we’re looking back up again so we’re going to uh in front of my camera right on the gravel, where i set it off so coming down and slowing down and we’re down and the uh. The motors have turned off automatically. So all righty, so we are ready to fly again so we’re going to test out some something else here. So we’ll go ahead and take off again all right. Well, i figured it out it won’t arm because once it lands, you have to turn the return to home off. It does not turn off on its own, which is kind of quirky, so uh we’ll go ahead and rearm. The motors again and we’ll take off, and then this time i’m going to uh we’re going to try some of the other functions like follow me. So i’m gon na go up and i’m gon na put the camera down a little bit. We’Re gon na go up and i’m gon na tilt the camera down a little bit and uh all right, so let’s see here uh.
I guess these are the functions here. So we got follow me here so we’re gon na click on that and i’m gon na walk over this way and, as you can see, uh it is following me: i’ll go off this way here too so yeah. The follow me is working good. So all right, so we will turn off the follow me now and it goes back to normal now we’re going to. I want to try out the orbit mode now. This one here works a little different, so i’m, going to bring it over here directly over me. Like right about there, okay, so to set the orbit mode, you have to push the camera and the video buttons at the same time that are on the remote to set your center point. So we’ll set that and then we’re going to go back up to the outside of the radius right about there. And then you push them again and then it’s going to start the orbit mode and as you can see, it is orbiting around me. I’Ll go ahead and put the camera up a little bit here down all right now, the the camera tilt is a lot smoother than the the video reviews that i’ve seen for the sjrc uh f11 4k. So that is awesome because i know on the video reviews of that one. It was so jerky for the you know, raising it and lowering the camera on the gimbal, so yeah it’s it’s working great for the orbit, so all right so to cancel that we’re going to go into uh i’m going to guess we push both of them again And it stops so you push the camera and the video button together and they will uh.
It will stop your orbit mode. All right, i’ll, put the camera back up again here. All right, uh next thing i want to try – is some waypoints, so uh we’re, going to click on the menu here and we’re going to do waypoints, which is this one right here and then uh i’m going to set some waypoints. So if you see on the map here, you see exactly where i’m at so i’m, going to try to draw a waypoint here, one two, three four and then we’re gon na go and we’re gon na see what we come up with Music, okay, so it’s going Out, oh, maybe we don’t want to do that. Let’S bring it back here again. Let me uh, i think my waypoints were too far uh. For some reason i cannot see the google maps is not working, so i don’t know if i need to load those beforehand. I know you can set standard i’m thinking. Maybe we have to load these beforehand, so we’re gon na try some uh closer waypoints, so i’m gon na kind of zoom in here and then uh we’re gon na cancel okay. So one two three four okay, we’re gon na hit go and we’re gon na see if this will work a little bit better. So all right so we’re going to the first waypoint, which i’m not exactly sure is it is on the map. So okay there’s number one now it’s heading to the second one there’s number two.
Now it turns and goes to the third one and then it’s gon na turn again and it’s gon na go out to the fourth one, so that’s pretty slick. I like that and then of course, it’ll stop so um, so right now, we’re going to get out of the way points bring it back here yeah. I am. I am very impressed with this drone so far. I think this is my new go to all right. Uh so now i’m going to uh record some video um. So it says we had to format the sd card: okay, because i didn’t record or format it yet all right! So now we’re going to uh i’m going to go. Take some video now so we’re going to push uh the video button on the remote they’re red red is on on the there, and also you got the flashing green on the uh remote. So let’s get some video going here in our camera mode now uh while i’m getting some video here um. If you look at the top there, you can see that green bar now that basically shows you how much flight time you have left the shorter the bar gets to the left of the screen there, the less uh video, all right, less flight time you have and Then, at the top there uh, you can also see the the controller and the drone battery and also your transmission signal and then, of course, to the left of the screen.
There you have the the top is the automatic takeoff landing. Then you have the return to home below that and then below that you have your menu for your different functions, such as your waypoints and your uh follow me, and they also have a vr option in there, which i can’t test out, because i don’t have any Vr goggles so, but uh yeah. This is this is pretty smooth all right. So this is this: is camera mode, we’re gon na switch it off and uh go into normal mode? I want to see how well the gimbal handles with this. So this is normal mode and if you’re that beeping sound that’s, just letting you know that you are taking video, so you don’t forget to turn it off before you stop flying for the day and corrupt your video file. So this is uh. You know i’m, just jerking it to the left and right here and uh that gimbal and the eis is really helping out and we’re just gon na abruptly stop and there is no shaking there at all nothing. So i like that now we’re gon na go into sport mode uh. So here we go in sport mode and this thing is fast and this thing yeah this i’m loving this. This is nice. Now, if you see for a sport, mard see when i’m going to the left and right and i’m just jerking it, you know going as fast as i can.
You can see the props to the left and the right now that only happens in the sport mode. So this is basically for just uh. You know racing around the yard, this isn’t for getting your good shots of. You know video, because you do not want those props showing so all right. So there we go there’s some video, okay and i’m, just gon na put it back in the camera mode and then we’re going to do a return to home uh this time i’m going to do it from the the app itself, and i love how the return To home on, this actually turns the you know the front. The forward part of the drone towards where it’s flying i’ve had other drones, where it returns to home, and it just stops and kind of it doesn’t matter which way it’s turning it is cut. It just comes into home, you know it could be facing backwards or sideways and so uh and then uh i’ll just put the camera down and uh. Of course it took off. You know from about the same point that it landed. I didn’t pick it up or anything so we’ll see how close it gets now. We’Re uh, yep, coming down looks like it’s gon na be a little bit off. Put the oh. I think i canceled it that’s what happened? Let’S! Try that again, okay, so we’re gon na return to home and then yeah okay, there we go it’s not too far off we’re about two foot off, but it’s still landing on the gravel, which is awesome.
So uh always remember to push the record button to save the file and turn off the video okay. I don’t know why it’s still beeping, even though the recording’s done but we’ll just ignore that for now so um all right. So there you go um the uh deer drc or derrick uh de 22, pro 4k and uh tomorrow, we’re going to grafton illinois on a little trip, so uh i’ll attach some video from that uh to here, um have a little bit more color down there.
