Once again, this is a bike that i’ve had on load from yamaha uk. The last couple of weeks i’ve got to know the bike quite well. I’Ve ridden it as much as i possibly can and in this video i’m going to bring you all the lessons. I’Ve learned on this bike, not just the good things, but the bad things too. So stick around stay tuned if you’re interested in the tracer 9 gt. This video is for you, so what, if you just take a bike out for a one hour test ride, you don’t really get a chance to get a proper feel for a bike. Do you so we’re lucky for me having rid of this for the last couple of weeks, i have started to get a bit of a feel for it and in this video i want to give you, as i say, the lessons that i’ve learned about the bike. So we’re he goes with eight things that i love and seven things that i’m, not so keen on about the bike. Let’S start with the negatives we’ll get those out the way. First, something i was surprised about on the tracer 9 gt is the amount of wind blast. You get. It’S got a pretty big. Looking windscreen on here. What i like about it is it’s very easy to adjust. You can do it on the move. If you squeeze that there, you go that’s his uppermost that’s it’s, lower position now here, i’m on a dual carriage, where i’m doing 74 miles an hour and uh i’m, getting quite a lot of wind blast.
Even though this looks quite big that’s in the low position. That’S, the upper position i’m still feeling a lot of wind on my chest and terrible air around my head, i’m sure there’ll be aftermarket screens along that will fix that i’m. A big fan of the mra vario screens that’s. What i’ve got on my gs with a little spoiler on the top here? Just you know, stop some of that turbulent air, but yeah that’s uh, one of the downsides to the tracer 9 gt. Wind protection is not as good as you would think so. Here’S something else i’m, not too keen on with the tracer 9 and that’s the way that the lights work when the bike is just switched on. You’Ve got your daytime running lights on here. It looks absolutely fine, but once you start the engine up, this is what happens. Let me just start her up for you right now check out these lights here, so you’ve got two lights, but only one of them comes on. I just find that a bit nap, i think there’s going to be two lights. You should have them both on just some other little quirk that i don’t like about the bike, like so many other euro 5 friendly bikes. This bike suffers somewhat from an ugly exhaust syndrome check this out, underneath in particular this massive box. Here is all thanks to euro five and uh. Well, it does actually sound very good on the tracer nine uh.
It looks absolutely horrible, there’s, probably no option for any aftermarket exhaust, so that’s. Something else i don’t like about the bike is the way the exhaust looks. Sounds good but the looks of it euro five thing not liking it. Okay, here’s something that i’m not too keen on with the bike, then i’ll just uh stick her into neutral right! Imagine i’m in my garage or something here and i want to move the bike around uh all very well and good. My feet are on the deck, but because, if you look to see where the actual, can you see the pegs there themselves they’re right where your legs go? So if you’re shortish of leg as i am, it means my my legs have to be really wide out. Splayed out so when i’m paddling the bike back and forward like so same both sides. Obviously, my legs are catching on the pegs it’s, just an annoyance and one of those things that just get a bit old a bit quick just to position the foot pegs get in the way of your legs when you want to paddle the bike so that’s. Something else i don’t like about the machine, something that i don’t like about the bike that i noticed pretty much as soon as i first jumped on. It is the hardness of the seat. Now, normally a hard seat means uncomfortable and i have to say it’s not actually that uncomfortable. It fits your backside.
Quite nice it’s quite well sculpted, but it is a bit prank like now. I’Ve ridden this bike, probably the longest ride i’ve done on it has been about an hour and a quarter. I have to say my bum had sort of had enough by then. So i think, if i were to get one of these i’ll, probably look at aftermarket solutions for the seat or maybe get a bit of a sheepskin to strap on the top of the seat or whatever one of those air hawk seats would probably fix it. But given it is a gt, a grand tour, a bike designed for long distances, i’m surprised the seat, isn’t better padded, so a bit of a thumbs down from me on the comfort on the seat, all right, something else that i’m not too keen on on the Tracer 9 is the panniers. Now it does is a touring bike, so it comes with panties that’s, a good thing and they’re great value for money. It has to be said, but i’m, not too sure. I actually like the looks of them too much. They’Ve got someone’s got a depth to them that doesn’t quite do it for me, i’ve not seen a designer pannier quite like that, and also i did initially find them a little bit. Fiddly to use i’ve got better at it. Actually, since i’ve used them some more. Let me just get the key i’ll show you how this works: there’s, the control here on the top.
In fact what you have to do, if you switch it over to that side, you can press that button and then you can just open it like that. So actually they’re pretty straightforward to use. You move the key over to the other side if you actually want to take the pannier off so they’re, not as fiddly to use as i initially thought, but the jury well, the jury isn’t out. I don’t like the way. The panniers look, but you can at least get a full face helmet in them, and you can carry plenty of luggage but uh, the matter of personal taste, whether you like it looks up or not something new for this latest model of the tracer 9 gt. Is this new display this split display here and i have to say i decided i’m, not a fan of it, it’s quite clear: the display the cfts but i’ve got the sun in front of me at the moment i don’t know if you can see on here. Look but uh i’m wearing my hi vis, uh airbag jacket at the moment. Wear that white, airbag waistcoat thing and all i can see in the display is the hive is reflecting back actually quite hard to actually read the bits and pieces on the display itself. It’S got everything you need there, just not quite sure it works. I applaud yamaha for trying something different, but yeah actually initially, i thought i like that split display idea, but it’s, because it’s got this shiny finish and the information seems to be sort of scattered a bit at random on the screens.
I’Ve decided. I don’t like that. After all, okay enough with the engine, then let’s do away with the negatives. What about the positives on this bike? There’S an awful lot to like about the new tracer, 9 gt and well here’s the highlights for me in no particular order. So the engine of course in the tracer 9 gt, is that from the mt 09 it’s a triple cylinder configuration, and i absolutely love it. What i like about it most are two things really it’s punch and it’s sound. Let me try and give you a demo. Okay, so it’s not absolutely blisteringly super bike fast, but it is perfectly adequate. I can tell you for normal road riding. It goes really nicely. Spins up quickly and sounds great as triple engines do it’s properly eager love the engine on this that’s. Another thing i love about the bike Music, something i very much like about the tracer 9 gt. Is this the quality the build the fit and finish on the bike is excellent in particular, what i’ve noticed about it? The paint seems very deep and lustrous. I love it. It probably doesn’t come to show you on the camera here, but this black is properly black. The tank has got a lovely, deep, metallic uh coat to it, which looks like it’s going to last forever. It looks like it’s going to be very hard wearing even things like the wheels look just absolutely fantastic. I love number one that they’ve done them in blue, which you know is a little bit brave of yammer.
Why don’t more bike manufacturers do that sort of thing, but also these particular ones are what i call spin forged it’s a clever manufacturing process that yamaha have painted it and it actually because they are machined as well as cast they actually look like beautiful bits of Engineering so it’s a huge thumbs up in terms of build quality, fit and finish on the tracer 9. and another thing that i absolutely love about. The tracer 9 gt is its handling, it’s kind of curious, because it’s very light this bike to handle, but it’s also planted at the same time it’s it’s, weird it’s, not like you have to manhandle it around the corners. You just point, and it goes, but once you set it up, it stays where you pointed it, and i love that about it. I don’t have it to do with the fancy suspension that it’s got or what but handling wise it feels light, but it feels planted at the same time. I, like it a lot here’s something else i like about the tracer 9 gt, and that is this. It comes with a center stand, so few bikes do that these days, but it makes life so much easier, particularly in the case of a chain driven motorcycle where you need to lubricate the chain, not only that, but it’s also really easy to use it’s. Quite you know it feels actually quite like a light bike, even though it’s over 200 kilograms, uh wet it doesn’t feel like a heavy bike at all.
This and it’s really easy to use this center stand so down in the usual way, get the bike up right and it really is piece of cake to pop her up on the center stand so big thumbs up. For that another thing i like about the tracer 9 gt – something i like very much on this bike – is its quick shifter, both up and down it works beautifully and with this engine just makes the bike a joy to throw around yeah huge thumbs up for the Quick shifter on this bike, love it so i’m, somebody that uh often complains about bikes having too much electronics and uh. This bike is no stranger to electronics. It’S got all sorts of stuff anti wheelie rear wheel, lift control, clever, braking control, electronic suspension, of course, and one of the reasons why sometimes i don’t, like all that electronics is, it – makes things really really complicated to control. Well, what i would say on this bike is that they’ve actually got the control of that lot sorted out, because it uses this little wheel down here on the right and it really is quite intuitive to use which makes a real treat or a real change. It’S. Quite easy to move across the screens and change what you want to electronics, wise so, even though i’m not generally and per se, a fan of electronics on bikes. This one has a comprehensive suite and they’re easy to control as well.
So i like that about the bike, something else i really like about this bike. It’S kind of something that’s difficult to put your finger on, but to me, it’s really really important, and that is it’s ease of living with it’s really easy to live with this bike, and what i mean by that is there’s, nothing about it, that’s that really irritating. So, for example, lifting it up off the stand, moving it around, put it in and out of your garage. It feels very light, even though it’s not particularly light, but they’ve got the balance right and it feels easy to move around stuff like that. Just makes the bike easy to live with so for me, it’s a big thumbs up in terms of practicality, the trace tonight, you know lots of storage, space, economical, comfortable, easy to shift around uh, all good stuff, it’s easy to live with, and i love that about The bike, okay, last, but definitely, not least in my list of positive things that i love about the tracer 9 gt is its pricing. The gt comes in at 12 199, which is, it is a lot of money i know, but when you consider the specifications of this bike and that you get the luggage with it everything that comes with it. I think that represents really good value funny. When you compare it with the competition of course, if you are on a bit more of a budget, you can go for the non gt version.
Okay, you won’t get the fancy electronic suspension and some of the electronic riding modes and so on, but you still get a great value: very capable bike, it’s a properly good bike. This, i have to say the more i’ve ridden it the more i’ve come to like it it’s all. I call a good honest motorcycle it’s, not particularly thrilling or super exciting, but it’s, pretty darn good at everything that it does so thumbs up from me for the tracer 9.. So there we have it that’s the lessons i’ve learned over the time that i’ve been riding the tracer 9 gt. It is undoubtedly a great bike, it’s a lot of bike for the money. I think it represents excellent value for money, but this is a very busy segment of the motorcycling market. Things like the bmw, f900xr comes to mind. The trump tiger 900 and 850 come to mind, so lots of good bikes in this segment. So if you are interested, definitely give the tracer 9gt a test ride, but right against those others as well and see which one you prefer alrighty that’s it for now. I hope you enjoyed that look forward to speak to you again soon. Until then, this has been the mystery fly.
